New short block build

Hey guys I recently blew up my ls3 over the weekend...#1piston went through the side of the block!! My car is a 2012 2ss with Texas speed head cam package prc heads and stage 3 cam, ported intake and throttle body, kooks headers, stainless works chambered exhaust and a tune. Well now with the block being no good i was looking into getting a short block and looking for recommendations. Money is slightly tight and this will be a long process but starting my research. I was looking at the Texas speed 418 and 427 stroker short blocks but was wondering if anyone has experience with them or any others. Any info would be greatly appreciated

I just had an engine built. My advice would be to get quotes from several builders and see which fits your budget. There are many, many engine builders out there. You'll likely find all of them are very close to each other.

thanks for the response, i am very pleased with their head/cam package that is on the car...still trying to figure out why the piston failed drastically...another thin, does anyone know if they sell single heads cause I'm pretty sure the one side is trashed considering a bunch of chunks of the piston along with what looks like a quart of oil were sitting in the intake manifold lol

Apparently you've had experience with Texas Speed. Best bet would be to talk to them.

My block I got from Sag performance group shopping on the net also known as Custom engine supply, they along with Thompson motorsports are the largest sellers of built blocks on Ebay back when I was looking compared to some prices. My block bare was about 1300$ and then rotating assembly like $2500 forged but could have been cheaper but not better.... Was about 5 grand with shipping all in for a short block stroker 428 forged internals, bearings, clearanced and balanced /blue printed etc...

Jerry at custom engine supply was great to work with and recommended installing the right parts to make it easy for assembly. I had a MAST windage tray for a stroker I had to modify further for the clearance and it may be a problem many run into. Good Luck. I do believe Texas speed is smart and they include the Br30 break in oil with the block and I used it more than once. I dump oil after dyno tuning / break in of the engine with varying revs over time as a new engine should be but also for the cams sake.. then ride another 500 with br30 again then switch over to some cheaper vr30 for a couple thousand just to make sure all is seated well, then go full synth ls30. With our heads being symmetrical it does not matter one side is the same as the other so one head should be able to be purchased, I use GMPP heads from summit they are only slightly more than stock for CNC ported.

Well I love it, I am a with a much milder cam and a feel of gobs of more torque but I never wanted to go FI, or even think of it in the future form my compression ratio being 11 to 1. Its reliable as anything, a 416-18 is where most go and its usually made more FI friendly for those that want it. Its like say a stock motor versus a built motor feel for take off in the torque feel difference and way more low end and all across the board torque even with a milder cam.....

Hey bro I just had a new engine rebuilt to replace my engine that had the same thing happen to you! I just had my #2 piston blow into a million pieces and go out the side of the block.

I had a shop in Sacramento that specializes in LS build my motor. The cost break down was below:

Long Block- 750
File Rings- 150
Headwork- 300 (damaged due to the piston exploding)
Machine Shop Work- 300
Cost of used bare block- 1000

I brought him all the parts that I had purchased from TSP.
