2017 ZL1 Convertible or Coupe in A10

I drove the ZL1 coupe and convertibable today both automatics. I was going to wait for the ZL1 1LE but I do want to get the new A10. I would have definitely gotten the ZL1 1LE if it had the A10. I am truly impressed with the A10. This is not going to be a track car so I want something fast and fun thus considering the convertible.

My 2015 Z/28 got totalled from someone that blew a stop sign and hit me on the driver side totalling my car. Thank goodness the insurance with proof of receipts covered me for 1/2 of the build (does not cover labor for aftermarket parts installs).

I trust my fellow Z/28 owners and want your input and thoughts...which is going to be a very different car from the Z/28. So, what are your thoughts?

Personally, if you get the coupe, I don't think you are going to see that it is a huge departure from a Z/28. The 6th gen ZL1 is a little less than 90lbs heavier, but the chassis is marginally stiffer, and it's packing an extra 150hp! Not to mention heated/cooled seats, Bose, wireless phone charger, 8in touchscreen radio, and you won't have to worry about finding one without A.C.

If you go vert, you will have an even heavier car, with a weaker chasis.

I've driven all of them. For my money, its hard to beat a coupe ZL1 A10. I love the ZL1 1LE, and may get one at some point, BUT you just can't beat the A10. Also, I am not a convertible fan, so coupe it is (for me).

Given you live in Phx. - I would get the vert ZL1 A10 - you can't go wrong - you give up a little on the handling end, but you gain a lot of fun and never bad to put the top down from October - April in your neighborhood!

Coupe or Vert - the A10 ZL1 is the way to go for the street - easily can be a favored DD! If you do go coupe I also would go "no" sunroof for extra headroom, less weight and stiffer chassis.

Good luck with your decision!

Glad you are ok, but sorry your Z got totaled - was a super nice build!

Coupe all the way - lines of the car flow better; A10, no sunroof

I've never been a fan of convertibles. I just don't like the look. Even the Vipers I had, the convertible top ruined it for me. I'd definitely get the coupe.

On a different note though Charle, I'd buy another Z/28. While the ZL1 is a bad machine, the looks just don't do it for me. An acquaintance of mine owns a Chevy dealership and called me about looking at a new ZL1. I went to see it but it just didn't have the same affect on me the Z/28 did the first time I saw one. With the Z/28, I had that "I have to have it" feeling. The ZL1...not so much.

+1 I have seen 2 ZL1s in person and neither really impressed me. In one instance the guy launched hard from a stop light (I was in my truck) and the exhaust note was just "meh". I've seen another Z/28 on the road and it sounded like a monster from 3 blocks away (I know the owner and it's 100% stock...) and it's street presence blew me away and I own one!

That said, to answer the OP's question... coupe all day long.

You can not go wrong with either. The Z/28 is just a badass car. It just was not fast enough for me and that is why mine had the mods it had. The braking in the Z/28 was amazing and not having any brake dust on your wheels was a plus! The handling of the Z/28 was amazing as well.

I have tracked the Z.28 twice and it was incredible. If you are going to seriously track the car then the Z/28 is for you over the Zl1.

For me the ZL1 is the new thing since I have been there and done that with the Z/28. That does not mean I will not own one again though. But the new A10 and creature comforts and still being fast with the new technology as well is just fitting my current lifestyle right now. And I do love the front of the car and the interior. Bang for buck buying a nice $50k Z/28 over a $70k 2017 ZL1 is a no brainer though...very tough choice for someone!

Im in Canada, and even we have a lot of summer days that are just too hot to drive with the top down. In AZ, no question Id be getting the coupe, and cranking the A/C.
