Diagnostics Code

I had to bring my 2012 2SS convertible to the dealer as my Instruments went crazy. My DIC displayed the "Service back up system" warning message, while all other instruments still had light, yet no information was displayed. I also had the following lights on: ABS, Traction control, and E-Brake. The only instrument that still worked was the Battery Voltage meter.

I stopped by and got to talk to the technician (they know me well and let me talk to the mechanics directly ). He showed me the below list of error codes, which apparently are all related to low voltage issues.

They tested the battery and that's not the problem.

BCM
B2600 01 Daytime Running Lamp Control Circuit
B2600 04 Daytime Running Lamp Control Circuit
B2605 01 Disable Signal Open Circuit
B2605 04 Disable Signal Open Circuit
TCM
P1761 00 Shift Solenoid C Performance
B2585 01 Park Lamp Control Circuit
B3006 01 Hood Ajar Circuit
B3606 04 Hood Ajar Circuit
B3867 01 ??
B3867 04 ??
C0277 06 Brake Pedal Position Sensor Circuit
C0760 03 Left Front Low Tire Pressure Sensor
C0765 03 Right Rear Low Tire Pressure Sensor
U0100 00 Lost Communication With Transmission Control Module (TCM)
U0101 Lost Communication With Transmission Control Module (TCM)
U0121 Lost Communication With Electronic Brake Control Module

Does anyone know these codes and has an idea what could cause such an issue?

Just as an fyi if your traction system or ABS system has a fault that illuminates its light, all three lights related to the system will illuminate. Meaning a faulty ABS sensor will cause the ABS light, Traction light, and Brake light to come on all at once. At least on most cars

I think the U0100 code is not for transmission actually, it just means communication error but is not specific as to which modules Could be wrong. Maybe he just means that the code was found in the transmission codes rather than the PCM codes?

You may have a computer problem. On CANBUS cars the modules all talk to each other and cause each other problems. It should still be under warranty right? Or is your mileage too high?

If you're trying to fix this yourself it's not easy, you need to pincheck all your wires going from everything affected and see what's shorting out. Hopefully this is NOT an intermittent problem as that would make it nearly impossible to find the problem unless it happens at the exact time you're checking it.

Let the dealer fix it...

And of course it's not the battery -__-

Oh, and if you have a factory equipped scanner you should start with this:

  • Try to communicate with EVERY module individually using factory scanner or scanner that meets factory standards
  • Mark down which modules do NOT communicate. Probably your TCM and brake module
  • Disconnected suspected modules ONE at a time.
  • After disconnecting and leaving disconnected ONLY ONE module, use factory scanner to try to communicate with all of the modules. If modules that would not communicate before can now communicate, your module is more than likely faulty.
  • If problem persists, plug back in module and try another. Repeat until communication is restored to all modules EXCEPT for the one that is currently disconnected
  • If problem STILL persists after checking every module, you have a short in the wiring system in between communications and have a lot of labor ahead of you to pincheck all the wires.
The problem you are having is NOT limited to the Transmission module and Brake module. Your PCM can act fine and cause all of the other modules to malfunction. Your RADIO can cause it, your CLUSTER can cause it, your BCM, any module you've got. And you've got a lot of modules. They can show NO problems, and cause the other modules problems

Ah, the pros and cons of CANBUS computer systems.

Seeing ALL of those codes pop up at once is actually a good thing provided he is under warranty. He's not having twenty individual problems for 20 individual codes. He's having one electrical problem, and all those codes make it very easy to figure out one of the modules must be faulty... or a short.

TommyTheCat, wow thanks a lot for all that information. On the positive side, Yes I still have warranty on my car. Now on the negative side, this problem only occurred once and has not re-occurred ever since.

I forgot to mention, this happened right after I washed my car. So my first instinct was that water must have shorted out something, which would make it nearly impossible to re-create the issue as it has not happened since even after washing the car.

If it never happens again don't worry about it. I doubt it had anything to do with the carwash. How long ago did those codes set anyway?

One of your modules had a little glitch is what it looks happened. If it doesn't continue to happen, it doesn't matter. If it does happen more frequently, it'll become easier to diagnose...

I know lots of people who got lemons out of the dealer, but the problems were so extremely rare that they never worried about it. My old 98 durango had the mil come on first month I had it brand new, i disconnected the battery and rehooked it up since i was on vacation and did not see it come back on for another 8 years. the code was gone by the time i got to a scanner, later that day, with no stored pending codes. gauges all tripped out both times for a few seconds... but its never happened since

This sounds like moisture in a connector or bad ground somewhere.

Jonathan,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I have mentioned this to William already, but you guys are doing a great job monitoring this portal and it is very much appreciated.

Since I am very happy with my dealership and they have always done great work for me, I will let them do their thing and see what they can do for me first. Should they not be able to resolve this issue for any reason I will certainly get back to you.

I only posted this issue on here to see if I can get any feedback or tips from other members, as we are lucky enough to have a wealth of knowledge at our finger tips on this Forum.

As expected, no resolution was found to the problem. The technician advised to leave it alone unless it should happen again. With my luck that will be about 5 miles after my warranty expires

and the saga continuous... The exact same thing happened again today. The engine shutters and turns off and the same back up system warning message and lights came on. I have an appointment on Friday to see what codes are in the system this time.

This entire thing has me a bit worried as I am not sure what to do if they still can not diagnose the issue and it keeps re-occurring.

sswiss3000,

Sincere apologies to hear of the continued engine concerns. Although I understand your displeasure, it's great that you've proactively reached out to your dealer for an official diagnosis. Feel free to keep us posted on the process if possible, and feel free to message me privately if additional assistance is needed.
