MSD Starter Motor

Hi guys and girls, thought I would share my experience of swapping the stock starter motor with an MSD Dyna Force. I was having slow crank issues when hot due to heat soak, I'm running a supercharged L99 Auto with Kooks ceramic coated headers, on hot days after stopping for a short period like filling with fuel the cranking speed was so slow it struggled to start. The battery tested fine and all earths and cables were checked.
I decided to replace the starter with the MSD unit and what a difference it's made, the crank speed is so much faster than the stock unit hot or cold.
It was a bit of mucking around to fit, as I had to remove the headers to get the starter out (my Camaro is right hand drive) I had to rotate the starter 1 bolt hole clockwise to clear the headers and also had to modify the plastic inspection cover for the bell housing. I fitted a heat bag around the starter as the headers sit very close due to the larger motor size.

I would reccomend any one with similar problem "slow crank when hot" to fit one of these starters, the power output is more than double the standard unit.

Awesome. Quite a few people have hot start issues here lately.

SO extra bolt hole down there for the mount I am a ls3 and think it might be a plug and play solution to my starter heat stroke for the price if its twice the torque with twice the output, I imagine the heat wrap helps I have one of those to go on when I under there next. Looks like this one...LOL better save my change........... thanks!
