1/2 mile tips

I'm going to my very first 1/2 mile event next weekend. I am currently worried a bit about just running my daily street tires. I know my ability to launch will be limited, but how big of a deal will it be since time is not the factor, but MPH is? I have dyno'd 662/692, so I am hoping to be around 150ish at the finish line. I also need to drive about 350 miles to the event which is mostly why I am driving on regular tires.

erm...you need a ZR rated tire with either the W or Y rating....IMHO...

I'm going to guess that you reach 148mph.
It is sooo hard not to spin the tires at the start on a non prepped track, and the urge to push the gas pedal all the way down is too tempting.
The start is the hardest paet to getting an extra mile or two at the finish line.
Good luck.

Since you in VA, I'm assuming you are going to the Wanna go fast event in Hot Springs. There is no track prep because it is an airport. That airstrip is also the highest one east of the Mississippi so altitude will factor in. With that said, I was there last year and it is really cool. Let us know how you do. There were a bunch of built Lambos and GTRs that were hitting 200 mph.
