Tire pressure sensors replaced & work intermittently.

Not sure where to post this so if it needs to be moved then moderators please move it. I had all four of my tire pressure sensors replaced oh, they were not replaced at a dealer but at a tire shop that does them all the time. They program them and they worked fine until I got about 5 miles from the shop and on my display it came up and said tire pressure monitors not working. Over the past two weeks they will work sometimes and other times they won't be working. They won't be working and I'll be driving on the road and all of a sudden they will start to work, so there is no pattern of when they do or do not want to work.

At times the display will show the tire pressure on one or two tires but it alternates between all four of the tires so it's not like One sensor is bad. Other times it doesn't register any of the sensors. I took the car to a dealer and they reprogrammed the sensors but again I got a few miles away from the shop and the display came up that they were not working again. Has anyone had this problem that can help me figure it out?

maybe they put the wrong type of sensor back in them?

Take it back and have it re-programmed. Sometimes when they program a new sensor and the old one is still within range of your car it won't setup correctly because your car still sees the old sensor and can't figure out which one it should use.

I have been told that aftermarket pressure sensors do this sometimes, i had one replaced on my car and it does that occasionally. I was told replace them only with factory replacements to avoid that issue. I am just going to live with it for now.

If you don't ask for OEM sensors, they will use some shit that requires a proprietary and different tool.

As for why change the sensors? If they are more than 5 years old, it's worth doing when you get new tires, because the batteries are getting old.

had an issue with the factory sensors doing this.it turned out the wires for the heater, etc needed to be rerouted from one side of the windshield to the other.the problem has never coccurred since, and it would happen frequently and at random.

The original sensors the batteries died. I have had the car since 6/17/2009 so the originals lasted a good long time.

I have had them programmed by the tire shop twice, dealer once, and I reprogrammed them once myself and they have stopped working every time. I will take the car back out to the tire shop and find out if they tried to put very cheap ones in instead of the genuine sensors back in. If they put cheapo's in I will tell them to replace them.

I too have the tire pressure display saying my tires are low...But I checked them and everything is good. So I'm thinking it's due to the temperature outside (It's getting colder now here). I had these rims since June 2013 from Factory Reproduction....so I don't if they installed OEM Sensors!!!
Anyways I'm putting the car away for the winter next week and I'll recheck this problem in next April....and if it persists I'll buy the OEM sensors.

The tire shop may have installed aftermarket TPMS units that are not fully compatible with OEM.
The OEM units sleep when the car is not moving to conserve battery life and then once wheel rotation begins, they "wake-up" periodically to transmit pressure info.
The signal is NOT transmitted continuously while the vehicle is moving, again to preserve battery life.
If this signal and timing is not fully in-sync with what the receiver/computer of the car expects, it could cause intermittent operation.
You should check with the tire shop to find out exactly which sensors they installed on your wheels ... and then check with sensor manufacturer to find out if that part# is compatible with Camaro.

Do you think the sensors for a Camaro are different than say a Chevy truck? The tire shop has done hundreds of air pressure sensor replacements and said they have never had a problem. They don't recall if they ever did the replacement on a Camaro.

Does the OEM sensors have to be ordered from a GM dealer to be sure to get the right ones?

You have to be sure they got the correct ones, just because they work on a Chevy truck does not mean they will work on a Camaro or other Chevrolet.
There are different sensors even for different year and some model Camaros.
You can get OEM sensors from GMpartsdirect.com
