How reliable are GoPro suction cups?

I’ve never used one on the outside of the car, so I thought I’d ask what speeds people have obtained without it detaching.

There was a spectator at the Texas Mile that asking people if he could put his on their cars. Several running over 200mph and it always came back. Idk if it was GoPro or some other brand

He would put it on the back of the rear quarter panel. I guess, just in case

I’m gonna try mine on the roof with a dummy cord running inside the sun roof. I’ll try to get up to 200 mph, but around here, the troopers kinda frown on that.

Some guys used gorilla tape for a little extra insurance. MAF sensor cleaner takes the residue off pretty good. FYI

I would prep the area you are going to use the suction cup on, too. Remove any wax or anything slick. Either use a bit of Dawn/water mixture there or an IPA rubdown (IPA would be easier than the Dawn mix). That way you aren't having any barrier between the suction cup and the clear coat.

They mount the on the side of prop planes flying at 150 plus mph. Unless you have a flaw in the sheet metal I don't think you'll have an issue
