What happens If I get into a accident, My paint is no longer available?

I Have a 2010 LS Cyber Grey Metallic Camaro, what happens if I were to get into a accident and they had to repaint it somehow. How would they get the paint or would they have to repaint the entire car? I mean I hope I do not get into a accident but what if.

Paint code is always around. You just can not order a new one in that color.

That's why they have paint codes , they can mix up a batch of paint for your car no problem

But I tought the reason why so many colors were discontinued was because they couldnt get some chemical that was used to make the color. So how could they remake the color with out that chemical?

^^^Not a chemical. It could have been a clear coat, base etc. that could have been discontinued and in that case they get the closeted they can to the OEM color.

According to the official GM release on changes for the 2012 Camaro. the only colors discontinued for 2012 are SG and RJT. RJT is being replaced with Crystal Red Metallic, SG is done.

CGM and IBM have been on constraint since April due to the tsunami in Japan.

The paint component you are referring to is called "xirallic" and is used in those 2 colors. The factory has been back up and running since mid-May but there has been no word from GM as to the availability of these colors for 2012 yet...

...which sucks because I wanted to order a 2012 CGM.

Did/Does ABM require that special component as well?

thx

The additive to make Cyber Grey & the other Metallic colors is available again. You know about the Japan earthquake being the cause for the problem, right?

Here is a link.

I don't think so but ABM was killed off in the first year of production so it doesn't matter anyway. It's too bad because I wasn't impressed with the pics of the color but when I finally saw one in person, I said DAMN, that is a sexy color!

Copy of what I posted in your other thread......

Yeah, it's been up and running since May...saw the report on Autoblog...but GM hasn't said anything about CGM and IBM being available yet.

Every dealer I have talked to, including those here on C5, don't know if CGM and IBM are coming back soon, mid-year, or ever.

I have an idea that this is a contributing factor to why we haven't seen pricing info for the 2012s yet. I just wish GM would give us some information, good, bad, or otherwise.

Yeah, I know the color is discontinued for ordering, but that's why I was just a bit concerned about getting bumps and things repainted if the paint was also one that had the 'xirillac' in it as well?

Btw, the photos I see never quite do the color justice, it's gotta be experienced for sure! Amazing IMO.

I think the fact that it doesnt photo well contributed to its demise.

Had I seen one in person 2 years ago, I could have a very different looking car...
