Lake Tahoe Where to go North or south???

Is there any Lake tahoe experts out there? I am headed that way and am looking to spend this weekend there and doing some skiing. My wife doesnt ski so she will probabaly go shopping Not much snow but there are some resorts that are open. Choices would be
Heavenly 4 trials open 3 lifts
NorthStar 7 trials open 4 lifts
Sqauw Valley 2 trails open 2 lifts

I am leaning towards Heavnely and staying at the Embassy suites. I havnet been skiing in 10 years so I if the trails arent advanced thats ok. I have heard that the southern end is a bit run down?

Any advice/experiences would be great.

thanks

Our family has a place at Northstar and we like it there. I've been skiing for 35 years and the hard stuff is in my past. Pretty mellow place, I'd recomend it. Only bad thing is it does get crowded on Saturdays. I usually try to Ski Friday and Sunday.

North shore has Squaw Valley.
Southshore has Heavenly, as well as Kirkwood and Sugarbowl being close.
I have no idea where northstar is though.

Yes, they have completely rebuilt their village area, kind of reminds me of Vail or one of the other high end areas. Shops, ice rink, couple of bars etc. I think they have some pics on their website.

Northstar is on the north side between Truckee and Kings Beach. Not to far from Squaw Valley. Its a little smaller and known as a family resort.

Northstar looks real good. Hmm so I think its between Northstar and Heavenly. I may need the casino's to ease the pain of crashin and burning on the slopes.

Thanks Mindz and Patrick for your help. I fly out tomorrow to Sacramento to visit the daughter and this will be icing on the cake!

If you're looking for Casinos south shore is probably a little better than North Shore. Coming from Sac north shore is an easier drive on I-80 (good freeway) than south shore Hwy50 1-2 lane crash fest...Have a great time
