2011 1lt Camaroafter service making noise, grinding sound code p030
Sorry for the long post, wanted to tell the whole story lol. My Camaro has been making a lot of weird sounds after getting it serviced. I got it serviced at Jiffy Lube because it was free. My buddy works there and he gave me the period I got an oil change the transmission fluid change and differential fluid change. This was just a few days ago. I am at 123000 miles. About 6 months ago I got a check engine light appearance, got a reading and it was PO430. I was going to look into taking care of it but the light went off a couple hours later. It was fine for a few days but since yesterday I noticed when I start it up and start slowly accelerating, it makes a low quiet grinding kind of sound seemingly coming from the engine bay. Seems to go away after it warms up. Then that p0430 code popped back up. So today, I jacked it up and was getting ready to check the exhaust for leaks and use a infrared thermometer to check the catalytic converters temps but on starting it up it sounded bad. I took a video to show. (My ac was on at first until I set the phone down and got in)
I definitely hear a vaccume leak, there use to be a regular ticking but now theres also a fast ticking AND I hear the grinding noise. I left my phone to record and revved up the engien and it just sounded so bad I didnt want to run it anymore. My warrentys expired and I just very recently have become a very $ poor guy lol. I'm not sure what to do, I was gonna call the dealer to see how much they charge to diagnose these problems. There spot I circled in the imgur picture is where my neighbor thinks the ticking and the the vacuum leak is coming from, when he held that component down the ticking did stop for a little bit. I couldnt replicate it tho. Hes no mechanic, but he is always outside working on his Subaru lol. Thanks for any help and advice!! Btw I'm not very mechanically inclined, I just watch alot of YouTube videos haha. I haven't really noticed power loss or any problems driving. I do take off kind of fast sometimes and I do feel a little tugging but I think it's just to fast and acceleration. But does seem a little bit worse since ther service. https://imgur.com/a/tv7xvGk https://youtu.be/mmf2RHKAJmk |

Update question lol. My buddy from jiffy lube who did the service came over. Showed him the car but it wasn't making the low grinding noise. He said the ticking is the explosions from the pistons or cylinders or something like that, slow ticks when it idles and fast ticks when revving. Not sure if I'm just paranoid and hearing things but just want to be sure lol.

ticking sounds like a lifter to me, but I am definitely not the "open the engine and look mechanic" many others on this forum are. Definitely something internal going on there.

The 3.0L and 3.6L SIDI engines (RPOs LF1 and LLT) use a direct injection fuel system that operates at very high fuel pressures. A direct injection fuel system produces a rapid clicking and ticking sound that can be heard from the engine compartment. The sound is more evident when outside around the vehicle or when the hood is open. The sound is more noticeable during idle and is more frequent during a cold start, but lessens once the engine is warm. The rapid ticking noise on cold start up is the fuel pump (located on the rear of the left cylinder head) building up high fuel pressure. When the engine warm-up is completed, the high pressure fuel pump will continue to tick at a lower rate of approximately one tick per second during idle. The clicking sound is the fuel injectors pulsing on and off under higher fuel pressures. These sounds are the results of a normal direct injection fuel system operating properly. So I gues that's pretty normal, so just gonna check my cats see if there bad then try and figure out why they went bad. Plus fix vaccume leak and maybe I wont have problems after that lol. Hopefully. |
