Door & roof trim refinishing paint

My door, and roof trim paint is getting shabby. Any suggestions for paint material to refinish these moldings? I realize the whole car will have to be masked to do this. It's gonna be a time consuming job, but it is what it is.

The intense sun in Louisiana is tough on the finish!

Not sure about what door trim you are talking about, but the roof ditch molding does come out so you can repaint it without it being on the car, just get your finger under one end and lift it up carefully and pull it out! Nothing to it. You might have to use a flat blade screw driver to get it started. A couple of my friends have already done theirs. Good luck sir !!!

Bro, Thank you so much. After 8 years in the Georgia sun, mine is severely faded. I was wondering if that ditch molding came off. Now I can square is away!

Thanks JEWLDSSRS, I didn't know the roof moldings came off easily. The other moldings I was looking to refinish are the top door window rub moldings from the mirror to back door edge. These may be easy to remove also. Sure hope so. Masking the entire car is a lot of work! My car is the same color as yours with charcoal stripes.

Or you could just buy replacement moldings. At least that's an option if you don't want to spend money/time on paint.

ive had that molding repainted once already. Remove it, take it to a body shop, then reinstall.

If you have access to a sprayer or know someone who does, I'd suggest using PPG base coat/clear coat. Have a friend who does high-end custom paint and that's primarily all he uses. Used it on a couple of my vehicles that were exposed to the intense sun in the Arizona and Nevada deserts for prolonged periods; very durable, no fading and looked like new after years of exposure.

If you are talking about the black molding that touches the window as it goes up and down and attaches to the top of the door, then yes it just pops off as well, just gotta get under it and pull it up VERY CAREFULLY as to not bend it, it has a metal bottom on it with clips and will bend. Also to replace them if you mess them up, they are quite expensive,,,265 bucks at the dealership !!!

Not sure how much it costs to paint the rails but you can get them new for about 36 a piecehttps://www.gmpartsdirect.com/auto-p...trim-roof-scat

Get some 3M 1080 vinyl wrap and cover them. That's what I did to mine as a cheap alternative to having them painted. It came out perfect and looks great!
