Who's Tested Traction Control and StabiliTrack

My 1SS/RS A6 should be arriving in about 3 weeks. With the recent wet and even snowy weather down here, I was wondering if my Camaro would be breaking loose and sliding all over the place in such weather. Will I have to drive like an old lady or can I go for it and let the Traction Control and StabliTrack take care of me?

While traction control and StabiliTrack are wonderful tools in saving your behind, they cannot defy the laws of physics. You still need to be carefull when driving in rain and snow. You won't have the same traction as dry weather.

Growing up in Philly area, I never drove any car FWD/AWD/RWD more than 45 mph. The variables just quadruple when you got any faster than that.

just drove in the snow today....car performs beautifully. when i got on a snowy side street i gave it the gas and the computer cut the power and handled the brakes so i did not slide and i barely had to do any steering corrections. and the best part is the car will move forward from a dead stop with little to no wheel spin. btw i still have the summer tires on there and have no reservations for keeping them on there all winter.

For fun I will shut both off... :o) Two orange lights warning you they are off on the dash. Leaves some serious rubber from both rear tires.

Thanks Pheonix, thats what I was looking for...real world experience. 400 hp and rain and snow usually don't mix to well. Sounds like GM did a great job with this issue. I can't wait to try it out.

Especially when you drive the car after a few minutes from a very cold start say... 27 degrees... the car gets tail happy really easy. scared the $#!t out of me twice but, now, I let it sit for a few minutes until the engine idles and until the cabin warms enough. I also lower my tire pressure a bit for better traction. It works.
Just make sure you monitor your tires regularly as the heat and cold makes the TCM readings go crazy sometimes.

As an advice, no matter what car, always use precautionary measures.
I used to have an STi (awd) and when it was icy out there even with snow tires the car drove kind of crazy.

high performance summer tires become hockey pucks around the freezing mark - and the colder it is, the harder they become.
If you're out on a dry day with the P Zeros, just take it really easy.
The cold will not hurt anything or cause damage.
from another poster, garfin.
ur driving on cold ground with rock hard tires, not a good combo.

For 6.5 years I owned an LS1 camaro with about 350 HP, 6 speed. With all seasons the traction control was very helpful. I eventually purchased snow/ice tires and that was a huge improvement. In deep snow where the car was plowing, it was better to turn off the traction control and just let the rear wheels spin. The snow tires pulled through every time.

I should be receiving my snow tires for my new car tomorrow.

Well, no snow here, but tons of rain! I "gently" tried to spin out the tires on take offs and some aggressive turns and I could feel the wheels correcting themselves. Pretty cool! I had no issues driving today - first time she's been in the rain, and it's been pouring!!

Get ready to park it for the winter. You'll be much happier in the spring with a brand new shiny car (car? I meant badass Camaro )

You're crazy! IMO.

After reading this article at Edmunds, I'd rethink that, especially after reading the horrible braking summer tires have on snow. We don't want anymore crunched Camaros.

Edmunds winter tire test

Quote:
And that brings us to our next test: full stops with ABS engaged. Here again the snow tires dominate, stopping from 40 mph in 156 feet, some 28 feet shorter than the all-season tires' 184-foot performance. Meanwhile, our summer tires skate to an ultimate distance of 351 feet, the ABS actuator rattling for all it's worth the whole way.
This was a Civic, but still scary..
