at the very least, i would pull the oil pan and see how many bearings are in there. Hopefully you'll get lucky and they will all be there. worse case, motor has to come out and completely apart.

Just out of curiosity how many needle bearings does that little POS hold on a side?

Edit: in case anyone is wondering.. each side holds 33 needle bearings. I found one in the head. I'll be digging for more tomorrow.

Curious, no audible clues to it being bad before tear down?

No. Found a second one also. Both intake. One on each side. No audible ticking or weird idle or anything like that.

honestly, i have no idea. a bunch. sucks either way. i might just go ahead and change mine out now before this happens. thats pretty crazy that it had no noticeable noise or idle issues with two of them being bad. with that being said, if two were bad, looks like your best bet is to pull the motor to make sure you get all of them out, thats the last ting you need is to have one or two of those little bastards screwing up your complete motor.

I’m going to inspect my stock ones that I had replaced after seeing this! I’m glad I did the bushed ones. My stock ones are in a box. Sorry to hear about that

33 per side so I need to find 65 more. On the bright side.. they wont fit in the pickup tube so I'm gonna see about getting into the pan and what I find

What kind of miles were the 45000? Daily, spirited, racing combination? These things make me paranoid. I have 8000 on mine and a lot of them were very spirited driving!

I bought the car with 36k on it. From what I could tell it was well taken care of. One owner always serviced at the dealer. Who knows really

partial drop of the pan and magnetic pick up tool....and maybe a remote viewing via a cheap scope from harbor freight.
To really do well since your going cammed a new high volume pump is best and then you can clean the bearings out well with the long magnet and look things over with the scope...… other than that you have to drop the front cradle or modify the cross member to be removeable which is a couple flanges and a couple good cut with a porta band then making it nice with a welder to size cutting the remainder also..not a minor mod.

And then get some bushed rockers... and since your camming your going to be pulling the heads to re do the baskets also right and check the lifters....( new ones cheap insurance) pulling heads with new gaskets, baskets and bolts not so cheap..... and then you can check the top end thoroughly...…….. and on the new pump make sure you have the right o ring and its on right and put on right and the pickup is right not just laying around..... Good Luck. I am in Salem OR, in WA I would do what I did more than once Take it to Wongs Performance Engineering......Because failure is not a option....my mods are more than I list...it is not long enough.
