Service Stabilitrak Message

Hello all,

I was wondering if any of you have ever had this message appear. If so, what caused it for you and how did you fix it?

I am just trying to get a few ideas on what could be causing this.

Thank you!

Appeared on my wife's truck on her first trip after a two week vacation. Never came back so I attribute it to a momentary low voltage somewhere in the circuit, on start-up.

If it persists, look for damage to the speed sensors or related wiring on the wheels.

Misfires can cause this to appear, some have found loose plug wires after adding headers or working under the hood.

Run a code scanner and see what it's throwing. This will likely tell you the cause. AutoZone will do it for free.

Got a throttle controller installed? Those will cause it sometimes also.

I have a 2010 SS which I still had the original battery. It would sometimes turnover very slowly and when this happened the stabilitrac light would come on and the car would run like crap. I would have to turn off the ignition and let it sit for a minute or so and then fire it up again which resolved the problem. I've since got a new battery and it hasn't happened at all.

Older batteries (beyond 4 years, you're on borrowed time) can and will cause "brownout" conditions to the ECM. When in the "brown" condition, anything can happen.

If you have a battery that could be older than 4 years old, it should be suspect. Particularly in cold weather.

And where is Mr. Fuzz with the rebuttal? He is wrong by the way.

The Stabilitrack system is too complex to just guess and replace components. You need at the very least to have codes run. If there is no CEL, chances are that the problem is only in the Stabilitrack. So, you have the wheel speed sensors, steering angle sensor, yaw sensor, brake input, power supply, etc., etc.
