Auto Question

My Camaro has about 1300 miles on it now so I'vw floored it a couple times. Ive never floored it from a dead stop but I have on the highway from about 50-110. Each time I have though I've noticed that it seems to hesitate to shift to the lowest gear possible for whatever speed im at. For example, from about 60 if I floor it it seems to downshift to 4th maybe then about 2 seconds later it goes to 3rd then it accelerates and shifts like every other auto I've ever had. Has anyone else experienced this in their auto?

Why wait for it to downshift? Downshift it manually...

because when you floor it at 50 or so it may need to downshift 2 or even 3 gears which takes time because it has to go down in order, it can't skip a gear, at least that's how it was explained to me for this auto. Try easing into WOT and it will go down 1 gear and while accelerating in that gear it will drop down to the next gear. You can also get a tune to make shifts faster.

I do kind of know what you're talking about. It happens every once in awhile, like what you're saying. I have noticed however, as I've put a few more miles on it, it doesn't happen as frequently. In fact, it's been very responsive as of late. I think part of if might be how I use my loud pedal. It's hard for me to explain, but I never really let my transmission get too comfy...I try to constantly keep it on edge, so I have what I want when I want it...

I understand it has to downshift more than 1 or 2 gears by flooring it at 50 mph. But I dont understand why its not instantaneous. My grand national that has 20 years old technology and not even a computer controlled transmission will downshift AND skip from 4th to 2nd immediately and hard. Even my daily driver oldsmobile aurora will go from 4th to 2nd when flooring it on the freeway. I will try easing into WOT but thats not really a solution. Possibly with more miles it would get better.

I understand that... but still thats not a solution or reason its not downshifting immediately the way I feel it should

I do hear what you're saying!!! My old 700R4 in my Trans Am is there RIGHT NOW!!!! I do tend to think it's like the way it is on the new Camaros because GM is giving us the long warranty that they are. This way they can all but guarantee nobody is going to screw 'em up until after it expires.

well my moms 87 corvette does the same thing, i dont think there is much you can do, you could try giving it a little gas to get it to down shift and once it does then really step on it. I dont think there is anything wrong if that is what you are worried about

I have a feeling it's a gas mileage thing, GM did everything they could to get some decent MPG out of these guys.
