I keep hearing this word "Tune"

What do you guys mean by it?

I see multiple threads, Exhaust/Tune

Torque Converter/Tune

Cai/Tune

What does TUNE mean? LOL!

there's more but you get the idea.

to over simplify it...Editing your computers settings to maximize your other mods. These cars are very electronic u add a part ideally u wanna change the computer. Not the old school where u bust out a screw driver and manually adjust it.

You could think of it as hacking your car's computer.

it's good to find a local speed shop if you get any mods to go with a programmer (Diablo) they will load their custom "tune" on the unit. When you plug it in you car it will download the stock tune that came w/ your car and the overwrite it with their tune to match your mods.

It's like changing the jets, powervalve, timing advance curve, trans shift kit... using a keyboard instead of wrenches.

these are so true.... and funny as hell to read...

Used to be dirty gearheads that did tuning, not it's geeks with a pocket protector and a dyno...

To me it's harder than Chinese Algebra, but thats what the geeks are for...

Basically, you're calibrating the computer of the car to optimize your performance based on the parts you've installed. Your computer is programmed to work in a certain way. Changing the way it works, when done correctly, can make your car drive faster or more efficiently.

Keep in mind tuning is by no means limited to someone carrying around a Diablo hand held programmer. Us 5th gen guys benefit from the years of LS development that has gone on before the 2010 was released. You can get a reputable shop to do a complete quality tune with software such as efi-live & hptuners that will work much better than a canned tune. For example TSP offers mail order tunes to match your mods for right at $200 & it includes 1 year of free retunes.
