2011 Camaro V6 won’t start on first crank but does on 2nd

Pretty much exactly what the title says. My car won’t start on the first crank after it’s sat over night or even an afternoon. It always starts up on the 2nd crank and will start right up if it hasn’t been very long since it was last on (i.e. 15-30 minutes).

Any thoughts on the cause? I took it to the local auto parts store and had the battery tested and it passes. I’m within the battery warranty window so may swap it out just because. Kid at auto part store said it could be a spark plug?

Thoughts?

Note: vehicle is a 2011 Camaro LS

Next cold start turn the key on. Turn it back off then turn it on again after a minute. If it starts right up you have a fuel pressure leakdown issue

Had this exact issue on a fbody I owned many years ago. Replaced the injectors and problem went away.

It does sound like a fuel supply issue, not a battery issue.

Thanks all. This morning when I went to crank the engine after I did what @GreenHornet2 recommended it did the same thing, it actually took 4 tries instead of the usual 2. Once started, I let the car run for a minute or so and then turned it off. I immediately went to turn it back on and it took 2 tries to fire up.

I did not move the car but went to work out. After that I then came back (about a hour later) to start up the vehicle. This time it fired right up on the first turn.

The check engine light is not on so I cannot have a code read. Outside of the nuisance of having to deal with trying to start the car multiple times. Any immediate concerns?

you can still have codes without a check engine light being on, especially if you check with OEM scan tool or equivalent. On your car you have a high pressure fuel pump which you can read with the scan tool to make sure you're getting enough fuel, but you can't check low pressure without checking it manually. it could be other things also, you can start by checking for spark since that's relatively easy to test next cold start

could also be that your timing chain has begun to stretch

Thanks TommyTheCat. I don't know enough to self diagnose. So I'm taking it to my local shop and they're taking a look for me tomorrow. I'll update this thread with what comes back from the full diagnostic check.

I wonder if the valves being all carboned up would cause this?
