Question Z28 Style Spoiler on Convertible & 3rd brake light

I have a really dumb question. I'm looking at spoiler options for my vert, and was wondering if there would be an issue with the Z28 style spoiler blocking the 3rd brake light so you couldn't see it from the rear? The spoiler seems high, even higher with the wicker bill, and I don't want to block the light. Anyone have any experience with this, or better yet confirm that it does/does not block the 3rd brake light on the convertible?

Thanks!

I just went to eyeball the spoilers. My z28 with w/b is 5 1/2” tall from bottom of spoiler. When I measure 5 1/2” from bottom of my 14 vert spoiler, it seems to hit around 3-4 defrost line on rear window. Being 14, mine doesn’t have the 3rd brake light up high. That’s why I referenced defrost lines or you could use the 5 1/2” height. The w/b is about 1 1/4” high off the top of the Z28 spoiler.
Hope that helps

Thanks! Not sure what you mean by "3-4 defrost line". Do you mean at the 3rd or 4th defrost line? The 5-1/2 inches and wicker bill heights definitely helps!

Yes, 3rd or 4th defrost line from the bottom up. I just eyeballed that because I don’t know how tall the pre 14 third brake light is.

Well I'm glad I asked. The Z28 spoiler will most likely block the 3rd brake light. There is perhaps 2-3" of height to work with. I wouldn't want to cover it up for safety inspections as well as safety in general.

Thanks again for the info Ghost!

it does not block the light, its almost impossible to do. our cars are lower than most on the road.

It DOES block it from a level ass end look...Yes, if you sit HIGHER than our cars, then no, but unless its a SUV or truck, a car wont be able to see it from behind and from a safety perspective, yep, it would block it.

So that is two contradictory posts. However, what I'm reading is that vehicles higher than mine they can see it. But vehicles the same height or lower may or may not. This combined with my guess is that it may or may not pass inspection (depending on the inspector's vantage point) has convinced me not to get the z28 style spoiler.

I guess if someone is riding your ass, they won’t see it. I have it on my convertible and haven’t had any issues with inspections.

That’s good to hear! Lol on the tailgaters I can’t say how many times I’ve had dumb asses riding my 6 and having to worry about not out braking them.
