Concept style fuel filler neck
Has anybody out there done anything similar to the original concept design and location of the filler/cap location.
After seeing the work Gary did on his vented fenders, I think this could be attainable. So how about it Gary-What do you think? |

I haven't seen one done like this yet. I'm sure the engineers put the filler on the opposite side on the production model for a reason. (trunk intrusion, water drainage problems..crash worthiness...ECT) With the OE gastank being made of plastic it would be difficult to modify it and move the filler to the other side. A fuel cell is an option if you wanted the look of the concept. The water drainage issue would be a major pitfall. I have repaired alot of jag and porsche fuel door related "water in the gas" problems. Believe me that repair it isn't cheap.
I don't want to rain on your parade...I think it's a cool idea! We all would like our production models to mimmick the prototype as closely as possible. Moving the fuel door is possible there is just alot to think about when you do.....

This won't happen. You'd have to convert the fuel tank to the other side of the car to be true to the concept.
For the sake of argument, it might be possible to put the it on the lid of the passenger side, but this would require sealing the original placement, reinstalling a sealed gas cap in another location, and some additional work involving how to move the pipe itself from the side to the top of the trunk area.

Sounds cool, but it might not be worth it in the end. I do love how the fuel door looks in the concept. I would like to have that instead of the one it comes with. Wonder if theyll ever make it?

I hear you about the rain issue, but this is just a play car for me and is never driven in the rain. Putting on the passenger side would defiantly be the way to go. Don't have the know how to do this myself, but doesn't seem like it would be a huge deal to box it out in side the trunk though. I guess it could be a safety issue.
Just another guy looking to make it unique! |

As my father-in-law used to say "You can do anything you want. All it takes is time and money".
