Steering Rack Preload Adjustment

Has anyone ever adjusted the preload on their steering rack? I’m trying to fix a steering vibration and thought I’d try adding more preload to the rack to see if that would fix it. I loosened the lock nut and tried turning the adjustment but there seemed to be a lot of tension on it. There’s not a lot of info on web about this but from what I’ve gathered the adjuster should turn fairly easily with the lock nut broke loose. Since it didn’t seem right I just left it where it was and tightened the lock nut back up.

Also is there somewhere to get a large enough square / double square bit to fit the adjuster? I made my own out of a bolt but it’d be nice to have the proper tool. Thanks
