How To Reverse What A Wrecker Driver Did To Unlock The Transmission (causing a leak)

I have a fully built Camaro with a forged LSX and fully forged 4L80E tranny. I run it hard. So, needless to say, I do regular business with wreckers and tuners. Well, when I had an issue, I had a wrecker tow it to a builder. It was covid pre vaccine and he wouldn’t let me ride with him. I had to call my wife to pick me up and meet follow him to the tuner. He got a bit of a head start but it was a drive so figured I could catch him. He left without the key while I was on the phone. When she got there, I was speeding to catch him, got pulled over, so never did.

When he got there, he did something to the tranny to allow him to roll it off of the flatbed and into a garage. I had recently moved to the area and had not found a great tuner yet. This was my first time at this one. They said they would get to it in a few days, hut three weeks later, it was right where the wrecker driver put it, awkwardly diagonal in the garage...with a large pool of leaked tranny fluid underneath it now. It was parked regularly in my garage, and I would know if it had a leak prior to this. It didn’t. Also, the shifter was unlocked, meaning it would move freely from park, neutral, reverse, drive and back and forth without a key. I recognized this condition as it happened years before in a different state - both the unlocked shifter and the leak. I asked my tuner there to reverse it. They did and the shifter was locked and the leaking stopped.

After towing again to a new tuner, I explained this issue. I was told I was wrong. The leak was in the pan, which they tightened and it stopped. They also said there was nothing that was done to unlock the shifter that would cause a leak. The two conditions were unrelated. Well, It hadn’t stopped. I picked the car up and couldn’t get home because the car only ran about ten miles and because of a bad O2 sensor changed the fuel output. I took it back, they ran it a short while and said no problem. I picked it up and same thing happened and towed it back. Finally they listened enough to let it run longer and see the fuel mix change and the stalling. Like a doctor, tuners often figure you don’t know shit and don’t often listen to you about your body you know so well, or tuners about the car you know so well. So with that mentality applied to the transmission issue, they refused to address it. I don’t think they knew how.

So my next step was to call the wrecker company and get that same driver to reverse what he did or share his secret. It took so long to get the car back, this driver moved across country with no contact. The owner said he knew what was done and could reverse it. He would come out next week. He never did. I called back, he sent a newish driver who has a somewhat tuned car who pretended to know more than he did, and couldn’t figure out what was done or how to reverse it.

So...I emailed my old tuner from the state I left and asked him how he reversed the same situation years ago. He printed the email and put it in the garage to see if any of the mechanics could remember the issue and how to address it. No luck yet. Been five days. My next call is to the garage who installed the tranny, as they, like my old tuner were very good and very helpful. If they don’t know, I’m running out of options here. So I thought I’d start asking online forums.

Anybody have a clue what could have been done or how to remedy it?
