1LE/ZL1 Shifter Install on my SS

Hey guys! I recently got a ZL1/1LE shifter for my 2011 SS to hold me over until I get something better. I tried doing some research and some say that I can just replace the stick and some say that you can only achieve the shorter throw by replacing the complete assembly. Can anyone give me any input on this. If I don’t need to replace the assembly, that’ll save me some time and I can just loosen the trans brace vs completely removing it, but if I have to replace the assembly I will. Thanks in advance
