Hello, could anybody advise me with my differential issue..
Unusual noise is coming from the diff, dips and delays are felt when releasing throttle and subsequent acceleration. This constant extraneous noise presents always, but it's best at speeds 40-65 mph, the higher the speed, the higher the pitch of the sound. Metallic clicks are also often heard when starting off. I checked the CV Axles but no backlash was found. The only play is inside the differential, if you check through the drive shaft.. The dips and delays are very similar to the late operation of the solenoids in the automatic transmission, however, my tranny and TQ are after disassembled full revision, with replaced TCM. I bought everything but in doubt, do I need something else for diff restoration ? I bought for GM 8.6" IRS and hope it's exactly my diff. Gear oil ACDELCO 104016 and additive for LSD ACDELCO 104003. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The clicking could be lack of or worn axle washers. Go between the axles and hubs. Literally say anti click on the parts catalog. GM part number is 11611965.
As for the fluid. You can get ac delco fluid with the ls additive. GM part number 89021677

I don't know that a worn diff is causing "dips and delays". If I remember correctly you have a fairly low mile car?

Thank you very much ! I replaced left CV Axle 3 month ago with Trakmotive, but clicks returned (maybe diff sound?). By sound, I meant a drawn-out howl, like on old trucks. In my understanding, bearings are collapsed and pinion ring is worn out

So it appears you have a full rebuild kit coming for the rear along with new gears, Now I am not saying this is your issue or not but if I were you and doing all that you really should rebuild or replace your Differential, they are known to wear, I would install a True Trac ( Which I did in 2 of my vehicles ) or at least a stock type. and 8.6 IRS is correct.

Howling is usually pinion bearing related. A full rebuild with a trutrac may be needed.
