No 2nd gear

So this weekend I decided to change out my motor mounts as well as installing a poly insert into the transmission mount while I was under the car. Car btw is a 2012 Camaro SS with the 6 speed manual. Go to take it for a test drive today after work for the first time since installing this stuff and I have no 2nd gear all of a sudden. Almost like it’s locked? It just wont go into gear. Never had this issue before. All other gears work fine. I’m confused would a poly insert some how effect this? Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like you may have did something to the shifter or linkage while raising/lowering the transmission to install the polysert.

I was curious about that also. I didn’t thing I moved the transmission that much to effect the linkage or shifter when I installed the mounts and poly insert but maybe I did. I’ll have to to check those and see if I screwed something up and if I did hopefully it’s an easy fix. Thanks for the reply.

One question before going any further.... Were you really easing around when you tried to shift to second... If so, you might have encountered the 1-4th skip-shift...

If you did encounter this, a bit livelier acceleration to a higher RPM in 1st will/should bypass this, and if so, there is no problem, tarry forth....

If this isn't the problem, then there is a possibility you may have inadvertently loosened or disconnected one of the two electronic plugs on top of the trans... One of them is the skip shift module and I forget exactly what the other is for...

Check and ensure they are both fully seated. If the problem persists, then chase the linkage, but the shifter floats and isn't "directly" connected to the trans, and I don't see how linkage adjustment could be affected, simply by changing the mounts.... though I guess anything is possible...

I have the skip shift eliminator installed but there always is a possibility that it may have come loose. I’ll also check those connectors at the top of the transmission you mentioned also. But if it was any one of those issues wouldn’t that only effect things if the car was running? I can’t shift into 2nd with the car on or off.

So update in case anyone ever experiences a similar issue as I did after installing one of these poly transmission mount inserts. After checking all my connections as mentioned and suggested above and could find nothing loose or out of place I decided to remove the new insert. Once the insert was removed I was able to shift into 2nd gear again with out any problems.

Curious… Is it an concentric bushing, or possibly an eccentric (time-able) bushing… Crazy to me that a like for like bushing, regardless of material would do this, though obviously you have proof in hand…

Kudos for chasing it and finding the issue…
