Oil recommendations
I see alot of posts regarding Oil recommendations. I always run a Mobil1 extended performance filter and Mobil 1 extended performance synthetic 5w-30 motor oil.
Now that my car is supercharged, I am wondering If I should consider changing my oil to something with more viscosity, a different filter to protect the engine better. I know that everyone is gonna say Amsoil, but I would really like something that i can just go to the local Oreilly's and buy if possible, although if Amsoil is the reigning champion I will bite the bullet to protect my baby. Do I need to make a change at all or is what i am running more than adequate? 10psi of boost, centrifugal supercharger, making 530rwhp. Thanks everyone!

No reason to change what you are using in my opinion. You didn't do any block work right?

No, stock internals LS3. 45,000 miles if that matters.

No point to change brand or weight. Just keep it changed regular.
And yeah, I use Amsoil. But I doubt any diff so long as you keep it changed regular. |

Then keep with what you've done.

I've always thought it was more important to change the oil frequently rather than
what brand you select. I did my 20th oil change after 14+ years and 72,000 miles on my '10 SS. Never one engine sound or problem on my stock L99. Just IMO.

I think that the Mobile 1 5W30 is good enough since your still at such a low mileage and still stock internals. I only changed mine because I did a full rebuild on mine with forged internals and cam.

I don't feel like wading in the brand name arguement waters today. I don't know if it makes so much difference on a street car if it's changed occasionally.
I go with ?W40 nowdays. I know before the thinking was ?W30 but I believe that's changed. |

Did you also switch to E-85 as well? When I went S/C & E85 the oil temps were pretty high in the summer with Mobil 1. I first switched to Driven GP1 15w40 and that helped a little bit. After talking with Driven reps I tried their LS30 oil (5w30) and it dropped the oil temps back into normal range. I ran that until I pulled the engine over the winter. The Driven LS30 oil is crazy expensive now though!
Thankfully with the new engine they have me using Driven GP1 20w50 which is not as expensive and works well. Its a greenish color oil and is a bit freaky to see when you first pour it out of the bottle.. lol If I am just driving it around I might go a month or two on an oil change but if it goes to the track I change it afterwards regardless of when it was changed last.

If heavily modified, and/or clearances have changed, then use the builder's or parts manufacturer's recommended oil. It could even be a warranty thing to use a certain type of oil.
If mostly stock clearances and internals, I'd go with a QUALITY oil, standard weight, with a good filter, and do regular oil changes/maintenance. Pick your brand. I've never seen or heard of an engine dying simply because they used Mobil 1, Amsoil, etc. They usually died because something came loose or clearances weren't right, parts break, other issues... Just my personal choice- I stick with Mobil 1 becasue it's available nearly everywhere. Never had an issue on any of my stock LS type Camaro engines using Mobil 1. I also use either the ACDelco UPF filter or Mobil 1 equivalent filter.

I'm an Amsoil fan. But as often as I change oil, I could probably run Mazzola oil!

Consider doing a Blackstone analysis. Good peace of mind for $40.

I actually have a kit sitting in my garage... Might take a sample from my first oil change.
