Differential rebuild question
I am rebuilding the differential out of a 5th gen Camaro with 1LE package. It is an 8.6"/218 mm IRS rear. I got it almost completely apart and I'm having some trouble getting the pinion bearing races out. I had used a hammer and punch to try to knock them out from their backside. They would not budge. Before I try using a bigger hammer, I thought I would check to see if anyone has done this before and if there is a 'trick' to it like heating up the aluminum housing first.

I just used a punch and hit them out, I don't remember it being difficult.

Thanks for the reply. Interesting that you had no problems with knocking them out. I might be being overly cautious as I'm worried about damaging the aluminum housing. My next attempt will involve the use of heat to expand the housing and hopefully that will do the trick.
