Question New Car Window Tint Legal?

I just got a new Crown Victoria Police Interceptor and the windows are tinted, how do I check if the tint is legal ? I dont know what percent it is and I dont know how to find out other than driving 30minutes away to the tinting shop. Any help would be appreciated Thanks.

I believe whomever you bought the car from should have provided you with some documentation saying that this was once a police vehicle. This should allow you to not be given a citation from having an illegal tint %.

Don't know how I know this... I think I was told it a loooooong time ago

That alone will not make the tint legal, it is no longer a polce owned car. He is going to be held responsible for the tint since he now owns the car.

I found them once when I went through txdot.govlooking up laws for tints and underglows. I'm not 100% certain but the rear window and rear passenger windows haw no limit if car has side mirrors. The front window is a certain % and only the top 6 inches and the front side windows is a %. that's what I can rememer off the top of my head. I'm in the field right now with my troop consisting gunnery. If you cannot find it let me know through a pm and when I get out I'll find the regs for you

go to any tint shop and ask them to measure it. They have a machine that can tell you what is legal and what is not.

Just swing by your local police station and ask them to test it.

Or find a place that does state vehicle inspections. If they are properly setup, they should have a light meter to verify the light transmission of the tinted window. They should be able to tell you now that you'll fail the inspection, rather than waiting until you are up for renewal and have to pay to fail.
