reduction in value due to door dent?

OK... I parked the car along the street overnite, not in the street, but between the sidewalk and the road. My friends neighbor backs into the drivers door. KRAP! *%##@&^*

The dent is only in the door skin, but the adjacent panels will have to be blended. The neighbors insurance is going to pay for repairs.

This will generate a car fax report and most likely will reduce the value of the car. Anybody ever got money from insurance to compensate for this loss in value?

Why would it have to be blended? The car can't be that old...they've only been out a year...there is now way the paint has faded so much that it would need to be blended.

If the paint has not been damaged, just get the local "Dent Doctor" to take it out.

Naw... I wish. This dent is the size of a basketball.

My concern is if I were to sell the car right next to an equal Camaro, this would not sell or bring in less money due to non-original paint and the carfax. I know it's only 1 door panel with no structural damage, but a loss is a loss and i believe it should be compensated. I have read about compensation for loss of value when there is severe damage on new cars.

They can still get it out. You should give one of these dent outfits a call...

I was wondering the same thing, but don't know that much about body work.

They won't be able to get that one out. Too many creases.

That's why when little crap like that happens on my vehicles I don't even deal with insurance, knowing body shop people and painters that work for beer helps keep the cost down though!

I'm just not sure how you're supposed to calculate the amount of value lost when you don't know when the car is going to be sold. The value lost now is not going to be the same amount you'd lose 10 years from now.
