Question about Window Tinting

My car is registered in Ohio. If I get an X% tint job, can I be pulled over in another state where X% is illegal? How does that work? I like the reflective tint, but it's illegal in a couple states. I travel for a career, and I typically change States every three months.

Does the tint law only apply to the state one has the car registered in?

Thanks!

Doesnt matter where you live, its where the car is. Varies by state.

It isn't like plate laws for example which is totally different, just using it for reference. If your state does not require you to have a plate on the front and you drive in a state where vehicles must have a front plate, you can't be charged.

I can't have reflective tint. When I walk up to the car or truck it scares me.

Evidently over my lifetime I have missed alot of beauty sleep.

I think its crap IMO. W/e state you live in is what should apply...Of course I know it doesn't work like that and I understand that cops don't like dark tint for their own safety and I don't blame them...

Tint laws are a joke, make a new law that windows can be tinted and if a cop pulls a vehicle over the driver must put the window down immediately before the officer walks to the vehicle and if the driver does not put the window down, then the fine is $500.00, I think this would work.

This makes way too much sense, so it'll never happen!!

The thing is its not just the side window you need to see in. By the time you get up to the side window it could be too late, you really need to see in the back also. Plus what if its raining really bad, you gonna leave your window down waiting for the leo to arrive.

If you get legal tint for your state then you cannot be charged with illegal tint in another state if you are passing through. For example last year I was passing through Virgina and they have stricter tint laws than Georgia (my car is registered in GA). The trooper could not cite me because I had the Georgia state legal tint of 35% on my windows. He tested the window and sent me on my way. Virgina tint limit is 50%. The lower the % the darker the tint.

Its like a motorcycle Helmet law, just because you dont need one in your state, doesnt mean you can drive through a Helmet Required State without one on and be like, oh my state I dont need to wear one.

Haha my problem is kinda the opposite. My car is registered in MI but I spend most of the year in TX, where I can have 35% all around. Problem is in MI you can only tint the top four inches or something stupid like that. Yeah cuz that would look so badass tinting just the tops of your windows....

Anyway, I'm debating whether or not it'd be worth it to risk it for the two months I'm actually in Michigan. I think when I'm back this summer I'm gonna pay more attention to how many people have tint, then if a lot do I'll probably go ahead and get 35 when I come back to TX.
