Any mods to improve fuel economy?

It's been two weeks tomarow that I've had my Camaroand I love it more and more everytime I look at her.. I was wondering on some imput though. 426HP is enough for me and I dont need more, BUT I think I'm looking for excuses (At least to give to the Wife haha) for after market mods. Ok, What are if any some good mods to imrpove fuel economy? Like cold air intake, diablo sport, ect ect.? Thanks
Rob

CAI, exhaust, not sure about the tune or not...but anything that helps the car breathe better will improve the MPG as long as you can keep your foot out of it.

Also, you could try to convince her that you need to lower the car for increased aerodynamics! Lower drag, better mpgs! lol

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but, I was under the impression that anything that helps HP also helps MPG.

That's not 100% accurate. things like CAI, headers and exhaust help the engine run more efficiently and a side effect of that is better gas mileage.

but stuff like superchargers, cams, etc can result in more rich mixtures. Not always, but most of the time. The idea behind these types of things is to get more energy into the cylinder for each bang, and that means more fuel.

So yeah it's not a universal truth, but not entirely a lie haha

Take a hint from the 1970s and put a four-cylinder engine in it?

only one thing will help.......put a block of wood under the gas pedal so you can't get above 60 MPH. and a rev limiter set to 2500.......other than that FORGET ABOUT IT AND DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!!

like others said, if you get the engine to "breathe better" it will be more efficient.

remember, an engine is just a multi cylinder air pump, increase the inlet and outlet flow, you increase it's efficiency. increasing efficiency increases power and fuel economy.

i installed a CAI, headers, high flow cats, and muffler delete exhaust, with a tune that disabled AFM and my fuel economy on the highway did not change from the stock configuration. so i am running all 8 cylinders with the same fuel economy as if it were running just 4 with the AFM enabled in a stock configuration.

Excuse me, the early 1980s, the third-generation. The gas crises that caused that insane (in retrospect) design decision to be made was in the 70's.

If that was the case, then a top fuel drag car should get about 300mpg.

What kind of mileage are you getting? The best thing I can suggest it to figure out how to drive it for the best possible mileage, where the engine likes to run, etc... If I'm driving purely to get the best mpg around town I can get 18mpg. That's pretty good for a 4000+lb car with a v8. My old gto only got about 16.5 no matter what I did.

*EDIT*

I guess I missed the part about using the "better gas mileage" as an excuse to buy after market parts... A good exhaust should help in the mpg dept.

If your worried about fuel economy, I think you might want to get a 6 cylinder.
