Question about INJEN longtube CAI

Hello everyone!!

Been out of touch with the camaro5 forum for a little while as I've been really really busy. Glad to be back though!! I have a question about the INJEN longtube CAI...since the filter reaches to the bottom of the car how does it do in really rainy states? I live in Florida and road floods and lots of rain is normal. Don't want to flood my engine. Does anyone have any input on this? Anyone in Florida use the INJEN longtube intake? Thanks!!

Hey Larry,

I drove through the storms we had earlier this week in Tampa and had no problem. Of course, I wouldn't go through any deep standing water...

I would invest in a hydro-shield. It's kind of like a shower cap for your filter that let's air in but not water.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I do have the hydro-shield.

Ah, in which case you should be fine. No need to worry about the rain.

sounds great guys! looks like more money is going to be leaving my pockets this weekend . How was the install? Anything I should know about beforehand? Or are the instructions fairly straightforward. Thanks!

it takes about 1 1/2 hours to install. There are a lot of guys with them in and nobody has had an issue with rain even without the shield. don't take the wheel off, just crank the wheel all the way to the left, and jack up the car. you can access every thing from there. Take an old fork flatten it out and bent up 2 prongs 90 degrees. then you can use a pair of plyers to adjust the width and use that to take out the plastic plugs.

It's a nice intake, and I was able to install by just turning the steering wheel all the way and pulling back the wheel well liner. Definitely get a hydroshield. The filter is fairly well protected by the plastic splashguard, but there are gaps where water could get splashed in.

The only thing I didn't like about the intake was that the tube came very close (maybe 1/4 inch or so) to the car's frame. I only had mine on for a few days and it already had a scuff on the tube from where it made contact with the car. Don't know if this would cause any long term problems, or would be a purely cosmetic issue, but just something to consider.

I did. I didn't like that it was rubbing on the car, and when I saw the filter placement in person, it worried me a bit being so close to the ground. Being in Cleveland, we don't always have the greatest weather here. I guess I tend to be really picky, and those two aspects of the Injen were bothering me. Performance wise, it seemed to do the job well. I know lots of people have them and I haven't heard of any major problems, so I think it would be hard to go wrong with Injen if that's what ya like.

ahh I see. I'm really picky as well and I have a feeling that rubbing might bother me also. I've been through intakes like underwear. I started with the airraid and then went to the injen short ram. Now I want to change again. How do you like the cold air induction one for the v6?

Injen and hydro shield ...........GREAT.

Rain.............OK

Driving thru a pool of water.............BAD.

Install is what others have said 1 to 1.5 hours. Best instructions for an install I have ever used. Nothing to it. Take your time and enjoy.

Any further questions just keep asking, someone will help you out.
