2010 Camaro SS vs 2007 Mercedes SL550
Ok my brother has been doing a lot of s**t talking on how his auto SL550 will run over my A6 SS. He wants to put money on this. We are mostly likely headed to a track next week. His car is completely stock and has big 22" wheels which won't help him. My car has a roto fab intake and the 21" gm wheels which won't help me either. So what do you guys think?

Hello!

Mid to low 13s if I remember right on the SL550...I'd say a drivers race.

According to dragtimes.com they run 13.4 so you have a slight edge.

SL550 Horsepower: 382 HP@ 6,000 rpm T Torque: 391 ft lb@2,800 rpm Weight:4,270lbs (stock) ,....not counting 22 inch chrome rims. ![]() ------- 2010 Camaro SS(auto) Horsepower: 400@5900 RPMs Torque: 410@ 4300 RPMS Weight: 3,860 ----------- You'll beat him and easily.......just remember, your LAUNCH it the beginning of the end of the battle. Get a good launch and it's over! I think even if your launch wasn't that great, you'd still beat him as long as you don't fall asleep at the wheel like the Camaro guy did against the new Mustang 5.0. That was a fail. So let's see,....he weighs more, has less horsepower at the rear-wheels, and you weigh less, have more rear wheel horsepower/torque. Oh,...yeah, you also have an intake hopefully good for at least 10-19 rwhp. Yeah,....I'd give you the win. There are just too many things in your favor.

Nope,....I cross referenced the weight before I posted. 3,860....put a human in the car add 150+ pounds to both cars weight! Yeah, the camaro should still pull it off with some ease.

Too bad you don't have the stock 20'' wheels. The 21'' will cost you a tenth or two.
If you get the launch right, you'll beat him. It's all about the launch. You can't be playing catch up with an SL500. You need to beat him from start to finish. 1. Do a dry burn out. Guys say don't do it, but it works with the stock Pirellis. A dry burnout will clean off the tires and soften them up a bit. To launch. Rev to around 1000 rpms and hold it there (brake stall) waiting for the last yellow/amber light. On the last yellow light, roll into the gas (don't just slam the pedal to the floor) as you lift up on the brake. I've consistantly pulled 1.9x sec 60' times from day one with this method, but that's running the stock 20''. His SL550 will most likely hook up really well so you need to get the launch just right. |

That method won't work on the 21s. I tried this after you told me to try the soft launch a couple months ago and my 60' was worse. Don't know if the 21s are just not meant for drag racing at all, or what, but they really really suck a lot of life out of the car.
I can't wait to put my 20s on the back with some nittos to see what the car can do! |
