Will GM put Z06 "dual tone" exhaust on the SS?

Hello to one and all.

The Z06 has (the option?) of having an exhaust with an adjustable internal flap that opens/closes and changes the flow characteristics and tone of the exhaust. When I heard it I thought it sounded fantastic--brutally strong.

Is this or could this be an option for the SS? Might be the best of both worlds...

Thanks for your input.

Actually, the dual mode exhaust option (NPP) is available for all Corvette models and with an aftermarket mod it can be switched from quiet to loud with the push of a button. The option costs $1,195 (MSRP) and would be a little pricey for the Camaro....I think the Camaro exhaust should or could be louder to begin with??

They should. They should also put on better manifolds like the Z06 uses. I just put on LT headers and taking a look at the OE manifolds - what POS those are. Heavier than hell, ports are approximately the correct size and shape... just absolutely zero performance effort went into the Camaro exhaust manifolds, they belong on a school bus. Check out some Z06 manifolds and you will see a performance effort.

The NPP exhaust on the vette is awesome. And with LT headers it sounds rediculous. Solves the drone problem too by valving it closed at cruise RPMS.

I'm surprised no aftermarket has come out with a way to adapt an NPP like system to the Camaro. Would need a four outlet rear diffuser and some way to RPM activate the valves, but there is plenty of room for the mufflers.

i don't see why they would. the camaro is more a car targeting most income levels with the intent of having a budget-friendly sports car.... the corvette is more of a higher income target buyer where budget is not in their dictionary

You could just install electric cutouts, that you can open and close by remote control.

I'd opt for a factory option if it was available because they do more rigorous testing than a smaller aftermarket parts company can do. So I'd love it if they offered dual tone exhaust from the factory. If they don't I'll just buy the noweeds diverters or maybe the cutouts. At least the noweeds diverters don't expose the valves to the elements. So that may help them last longer. I just don't like how they introduced two 90 degree bends in the exhaust to do this though... But you can't have everything now can you!

It's standard on a C6Z. I pulled my fuse to leave them open all the time, so guess it was a waste of money for me!!!

I believe it results in a 6 HP gain in the LS3.

I have "pulled the fuse" and found it to be nearly annoying crusing on the highway.

I understand that you can put a switch in line with the fuse ( a frend did this on his Z06 ) and turn it on and off at will.

But the intent is an open exhaust that can still meet the pass by noise requirements.

I've found it's only annoying in 6th gear, so I just stay out of it. I think I'll put the fuse back in if I go on a long trip. While the Z is suprisingly comfortable, I would think the Camaro is even nicer for cruising (I don't know, still waiting for delivery) so a bimodal exhaust would be attractive.

Shhh. All the crap stock parts are the reason we get so much bang for our buck with bolt-ons. Dont tell ford.

If not on the SS they should DEFINITELY put it on the Z28 (if it comes out).

As far as if the extra cost is worth it, I guess it depends on the person. I'd have no problem forking out $1,200 for the Dual Mode Exhaust, but I have no interest in spending $1,200 for the RS package.

I have the factory installed performance exhaust system (NPP) on my 08 Corvette coupe.
My Chevy dealer pulled the fuse (at my request) on my NPP's shortly after I took delivery of it.
With the fuse pulled the flaps stay open all the time.
So you get that awesome robust exhaust note 24/7!

I'am a little surprised that the NPP exhaust system isn't offered on the V8 powered SS models.
Maybe it will be available on the upcoming Z28 model.
