I think I am going to put my stock intake back on. I'll just spray paint it chrome and put a GMPP sticker on it. That's what the General would do.

edit: remembered they post dynos for each airaid. My only questions are, was the car tuned to achieve the results below and were these 2 dynos selectively done? Last edited by ROD1; 02-22-2010 at 09:25 PM. |

LOL.
according to Airaid, their posted dyno result is/was less than the even the 248 rwhp claim from Trifecta BEFORE a tune with an Airaid. It looks like Airaids baseline was around 235 ish rwhp, and there have been some dynos of the stock LLT posting around that. What atmospheric conditions, what hoods were opened etc are all unkowns. Doesn't mean Airaid lied about their results......and we all had this info before we bought one. (the dyno sheet is on page 1 of this thread guys) Why is everyone up in arms now? And until we have some solid testing everyone is overreacting. Last edited by esperman; 02-22-2010 at 09:40 PM. |

I've been reading this thread for quite some time and I am struggling to understand something with the hopes that someone can explain it.
I understand that increased airflow into and out of the engine should result in increased power, but the concept of a CAI like the AirRaid being much different than just using a K&N filter in the factory intake still escapes me. The factory air intake is directly behind the grill of the car so shouldn't the factory intake be putting cool air into the engine? It looks like the surface area of the AirRaid CAI is greater than that of the factory filter so is it just a question of the increased surface area allowing even greater airflow into the engine? I'm failing to see how a $300+ dollar CAI will produce substantially better results than merely putting a $50 K&N filter into the factory box, can someone please explain this? Thank you very much for your help! |

My nickle's worth. I've had the Airaid installed for a couple months now and have nothing bad to say about it. It's nicely crafted, looks and sounds good.
I haven't noticed any negative performance difference compared with the stock box nor has there been any WOW factor either. I question if any CAI can provide noticible gains with this motor without a tune. With that said, I'm going to try SLP's Blackwing shortly. It's only a tube and filter but I may be working with SLP in the future with their Dyno based tune when/if they release the v6 version. SLP's shop is not too far from me.

I have NOT lost significant MPG since adding Airaid about 4 months ago. I have noticed about 1-2 MPG less but have attributed that to winter driving on the same exact route but with a lot more winter wind resistance than summer driving...will know for sure in may or June when conditions are back to pre airaid MPG logs I have.

The only question I have about the Airaid is does the new air box cover the oil filter housing? Every picture I've seen indicates it is covered, but it could be just the angle the pics have been taken from. Do we have to move the air box to get to the oil filter?
![]() Just wondering. LOL |

My question is did they happen to have the hood up? I believe it was Beauwulf who seen like a 12RWHP gain by opening the hood, there by effectively taking the "lid" off the the Airaid, which is is not a real test, since you have to drive with your hood down...

![]() My experience has been a lot of CAIs make their claimed power by "leaning" the car out a bit... Now typically that does make extra power... HOWEVER, i think in this case the LLT simply doesn't like being "leaned" out and doesn't respond in the "typical" fashion.. ![]() Stock the A/F for the LLT should be in the 11.4 to 11.7 range, based on the information I've been able to find.... We all thought that was crazy rich but as it is turning out, I think that is going to be an optimal range... But then look at Devildocs dyno and you see he's now at like 12.7 to 12.9... And that is what Vince is saying he found with his test car with the Airaid, it was running lean and he added a bunch of fuel to get it back down closer to the stock A/F and seen the HP improve... Again, looking forward to Devildocs next dyno session...

SLP's ZL v6 series Camaro is advertised as 327hp at the crank with just the Blackwing, their axle back and a custom non adjustable tune. I haven't dug deep enough to see if they provide a Dyno chart to back the claims but I'm going to my dealer to find out more just for curiosity. Hey, I'm retired and I like to tinker.
