Question Non-BA Amp install, Head unit questions

Hey guys I made a thread a while back about my head unit not working (I found out it was fried with my mulitmeter). I ordered a new unit for $65, got it programmed at the dealership for $95 and now I have the same issue I had before I shorted my previous head unit (I corrected the short. I needed to wrap my speaker wire to RCA converters in electric tape since the RCA's ground was exposed).

I am using the PAC LOC harness and NOT the LOC. Like what jeepguy did in this thread: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=213330

My head unit will sometimes not produce sound. If I power the stereo on without the keys in the ignition it will work and create sound. If I go to put the key in the ignition and fire up the car the sound will suddenly stop working (but the amp shows that it is indeed on). Sometimes the sound works sometimes it doesnt work. But, if whatever reason it stops producing sound the only thing I can do is reset the car by taking the keys out of the ignition and opening the door.

I don't know if there is a wire that is messed up going to the head unit or if my amp on wire is not attached to the correct wire or what. All wires are secure and look good. All speakers and sub work perfectly when the sound is produced.

It is mind boggling because sometimes it works perfectly, other times, not at all....

Loose wire? Bad amp on wire? I connected the amp on wire to the exact pin jeepguy did in his thread.

Help or suggestions are welcome. Literally, I will hear out any advice!

Here is my harness:

Once I can manage to find and pinpoint my issue I will have a complete build thread for everything I did. I'm in love with it except for this nagging issue...

Do you have the blue wire with white stripe going to the turn-on input of your amp? The solid blue wire is to raise a power antenna, and if you used that one it may be confusing the system.

I used the same harness but when I tried using the remote on wire like jeepguy my display wouldn't turn on. I had to solder the blue wire back together then I bought an add-a-circuit and used the #18 fuse in the driver's side fuse panel for my amp remote on wire. Worked fine after that.

Awesome, these could be my issues. I am using the solid blue wire right now. Should I wire it to the blue/white wire instead?

And 760bowtie, what exactly do you do to put that add a circuit together? Would hard wiring it to the blue/white wire instead work the same? Would hard wiring to the cigarette lighter also work??

Thanks guys, appreciate it a ton!

Just google it, you can buy it at autozone for like 6 bucks. The add-a-circuit will be your remote turn on wire. The fuse I said to tap into is for one of the cigarette lighter you're talking about. The only difference is that you don't splice into the wire.

I never tried the blue/white wire. I just ran my own blue wire from the add-a-circuit down the door rail and on to the back and hooked it up to the amp.

I'd rather do it the proper way than adding a circuit, both work the same. But white/blue is remote turn on wire where as the solid blue is for the Power radio antenna wire.

So yes blue/white is the remote turn on for an amplifier.

The blue wire will only supply 12 volts when the source is the radio. If you are not listening to the radio, but say a CD, then there will be no 12 volts on the blue wire. The blue wire is designed to raise and lower a power antenna, or to turn on an amplified antenna system.

I use the blue/white wire to turn on my front speaker amp with the radio. I also have a separate turn on wire, from the green wire in the center console, through a switch, to the trunk to turn on my subwoofer separately from the fronts.

I swapped it to the blue/white wire and everything now works as it should. Thanks SOOO much guys.

The only minor issue I have now is that I get a pretty noticeable amp pop when I first turn the radio on. Also get a less loud pop when the radio turns off as I exit the car.

Beyond tracking these pops down and removing them will the pops damage my speakers or amp??
