Can some one tell me, the water deflector mounting (how close to be flushed with the hood line in front)!strictly depends on the location of the extractor (the distance from hood edge at the windshield) is mounted? Or it is somewhat adjustable?
I saw many of the installs went by the distance of 16 3/8", some when with 16 1/4" and tge ACS template shows 14 13/16"...and don' know which one of these measurements will bring the water deflector come closer to the hood line possible up front? Thanks in advance for any info.
I read this thread many times and still not able to crank up the courage level.

Jack, The dimension is 16 3/8" from the back of the hood to the rear edge of the extractor. I went to the dealership and measured several cars. All the same. If you place it there, then cut inboard from that you'll be good. Measure twice cut once. The front of the rain tray will then fit right up against the recess on the underside of the hood. Most guys have used the six mounting bolt location to mount the tray. They did this by drilling new holes and using nuts or wing nuts to allow easy removal.
I'm working on making a plate that will mount on the underside of the hood and mimic the factory mounts for the tray. I just got the aluminum sheet last night. I've made an initial cardboard template and then a .020 sheet aluminum template. This material is too thin for mounting the insulation retainers, so I'm trying .060 or .080 thick sheet. I hope to have it done this weekend. When mocked up it looked just like the factory set up. It should also add back in some of the rigidity that's lost when cutting through the under hood bracing. I'll post pictures when done. Stay tuned. Rich Name: image.jpg

Thanks. I initially used the aluminum cross bars like others, but didn't want to drill holes in the rain tray. Hopefully this works out. Scribing out the pattern on the heavier sheets tonight.

Thanks Rich for clarifying my question, and thanks OP plus many others had contributed to this mod progresses.
I think your creation will bring up another level of completed product. Thanks for sharing.

Have all dimensions double checked and scribed out. Holes are for the Heat Extractor, hood insulation and push in retainers for the rain tray. I'm starting out with the .060" sheet aluminum. I'll get the jig saw and drill out tomorrow morning. Stay tuned.

It'll be interesting to see how the plate anchored to the hood. The layout looks very promising.

i thinking several rivets through the plate to the remnants of the original hood bracing. The plate touches several places, so I'll have good holding power. Plus it will be bolted to the heat extractor. OK...time to start cutting!
