Got anything to prove that? I just measured my spare and it's very close, if not 8" in diameter on the bottom side, the K&N specs say it is 7.5" for their black filter. The tapered diameter on the small end per K&N is 5.25", the Z/28 filter is right about 5.125". Per K&N the lid is rubber according to them, whereas the cap is plastic on the Z/28 with what appears some sort of resin adhesive to mold it on to the end of the filter element. K&N says their filter weighs 1.7 lbs, and according to my postal scale, the Z/28 filter comes in at 1lb, 5.8 oz. or approx 1.36 lbs.

Similar? Perhaps. The same filter? It's not adding up. I'm not saying that K&N absolutely didn't manufacture the filter to Z/28 specs, but it's not a K&N off the shelf filter either.

For the benefit of anyone who searches the forum or this thread and asks if a weak or strong MAF comes with the Z/28 CAI, mine came with a strong, K22.

Looking here on this thread I too is looking for an Air Intake Kit. I was looking at K&N and looks promising but the pricing seems to be on the high side. I search others and found some other brands. So I just want to see what is out there beside K&N.

For those who installed the Z/28 CAI on a 2014/15 SS did you leave your OEM full hood insulation blanket on or remove and replace it with the partial hard plastic Z/28 hood piece? The Z/28 piece does seal the CAI well, not sure if the stock insulator even comes down to the open filter.
Thanks

I retained my SS hood insulation, as it does seal the Z/28 intake perfectly. The Z/28 partial insulation is a restricted part (at least it was when I check in the spring), so it is not available for purchase.

Wet the seal of the Z/28 CAI and close, then reopen your hood, you'll see that it contacts and seals it to the insulation.

I received that Z/28 partial hood piece this week. It's hard plastic - not the same material as our OEM hood insulation.

Yes, except in California. Ask me how I know.

because Cali doesn't let you add anything anymore to your car and the dealership denied you.

Yeah, they did! That didn't stop me, contacted JEGS.com, they happily shipped it to California! I did the Dyno test with the hood closed.
