Yes, still going to dyno. Waiting for approval of day off from work, should know by tomorrow. Already reseved a date with JBA, 3/20/15 2:00 pm. It's just down the street from me, so I'll give them a second chance. What's the deal about the hood being closed? I thought it did not matter?

I've been waiting on some dyno results, too. I like the look of the Z28 intake, but probably not enough to pay $400 if it offers no performance gains.

Hood should be closed so it keeps the intake from sucking in cool air from the top -- and will give you a more "real life" measurement because it must suck air from the bottom inlet just like when you are driving and just like the stock intake.

If you have a fan running in front of the car then yes. If not then the hood should be open to make up the difference for having no air flow.

Since the Z/28 CAI is a different animal compared to everything else (in regards to how it seals up at the hood), I think the hood needs to be closed for a realistic result.

I don't know that it's entirely different. I believe the Roto-Fab also is intended to seal against the hood. Were all of the dyno tests performed on Roto-Fab CAI's with the hoods closed? I'm betting they were not.

Like there is really going to be some magical results with the Z/28 CAI.

The RotoFab, and CAI will be just as good, and you have the same chance at having the dealership deny your warranty with all three..

Stay away from kool aid and buy what you like..

Happy modding...

I stand corrected about the rotofab, but which way is proper? I think it needs to be done as it would be driving, for a real world result.

But, if the testing was done hood open then the Z/28 CAI should be done that way too for sake of consistency and fairness.

I agree the hood closed would reflect real world readings on the Dyno. However, like Nick S said, I'm sure the other CAI's were not dynoed with the hoods closed! Everyone always has their hood open. I will attempt to try both one open and one closed.

Its not as much what other intakes did as it is that the stock only has a hole in the front. So does the z/28 with hood closed but if you open it you allow the z/28 to suck air from top now too. That will never happen in real world so in my opinion not realistic numbers. Keep it closed if you want apples to apples comparison and understand the real difference.

As I stated in another thread I had a CAI on my 2ss and decided I liked the look of the z/28 one so I bought it installed and IMO the chevy one performed better plus it changed the exhaust note to a more deep tone btw I'm not trolling on CAI I LOVE THEIR KIT still got it on my V6 but the Z kit to me made to car perform better and sound better

The reason cars are dynoed with the hood open is that there are no public dyno facilities that can duplicate the airflow of a car at speed. Sticking 5 foot fans or multiple small fans around the car does not replicate the airflow the car will see in the real world. They also do not have variable speeds. IE when the car is at 20mph on the dyno it receives the same air from the fan as when it is at 100mph on the dyno. With that said, the hood should be open as underhood temps are not realistic with the hood closed.
