Ok. Did anyone have a chance to look in their 1SS for this plug? I assume they use the same wiring harness for all Camaros but would be nice if someone could just confirm it.

It seems I found the answer myself. The 1SS does not have the factory plug for ABL. I guess a different plug could be purchased and tap into the dimmer switch. Any ideas?

That would require changing the wire harness which would be a little hard and expensive mid model year. A more reasonable idea would be that they was told not to put it in position and is hanging somewhere behind the duct work there.

Wow, that's weird

It would be nice to have someone else with a newer 2SS, or 2LT confirm this.

I have a 2SS/RS born on 09/29/09 and I have the plug behind the driver side panel. My car has the backup sensors too. So if there was a new harness in use, I would think it would have been used with the new "option".

Have you tried pulling your gauges off, to see if both of the plugs are behind the cluster?

I noticed that both plugs seem to come out from the wires behind the gauges.

I think you're right, it's more than likely the plug is there....

LewisB22, you should take a look...

As a lurker not ready to commit to this undertaking just yet I've been thinking about how this mod looks in the day time. The nice straight line minimally sized seems good enough, however, looking at the side panels as a factory finished unit the area where the light tube shines through has a definite finish. So being anal about how things look I am thinking that a nice light dusting of a brushed nickle spray paint or graphite metalic would still allow the light to pass through and provide that factory finished look. If anyone tries it before I get a round to it please post pictures.

The paint that's used on the trim seems to be water based, so if you use anything with solvents, you will have the trim paint lift/bubble. I know this, because I had to repaint the entire trim after trying to mist the sanded part.

The other issue is that the EL wire has a limited brightness, so doing this will practically nullify the light effect.... Although, I hear they might have a higher intensity wire available ...... This might be a viable option if you're using the other ABL methods.
