That kind of sounds like the pinion nut may be loose.

Considering my lack of knowledge on this differential I would believe what you are saying. Can this be caused from the TSB's listed or is this just a separate incident altogether? After reading as much as I could from this forum regarding issues with the rear diff I didn't see anything about vibration on decal (maybe I missed it?). Just seems like people hear a howl or whine.

That doesnt sound like the typical whine as Bryan noted, maybe something loose, or a crush bearing.

Just got back from the dealer. New rear end parts on order. Loud howl from differential between 40 and 50 mph. Only 2851 miles on her. :-(

Sorry to hear that. Hope everything goes well for you and the fix goes even better. Did they put you in a loaner?

You should feel lucky they are working on the car. According to the service manager at my local dealer, GM refused to fix my whine that is happening in the exact same speed range while coasting. I hope they are able to get the car fixed quickly.

Just got back from the dealer myself. The news on the vibration was alarming. They said they looked at the car and noticed two lug nuts missing and the other three were loose. One of the tech guys had just happen to see them laying in the parking lot and set them on the service counter. They matched exactly. Thank god the wheel did not come off and no one was hurt. I feel pretty bad/stupid for not checking something as simple as that. They put them back on and tightened everything up and the vibration is gone.

On to the whine/groan. They said they replaced the fluid once and it went away but it is not covered under the TSB they referenced and it would be $125. I explained nicely over the phone that this was incorrect and sent them the correct TSB and also explained the drain and refill 3 times procedure. Tech was very polite and said he would forward the info onto the mechanic and hopefully have it resolved by tonight.

Update. They apologized for missing the TSB but are claiming that TSB's are only covered by the 3 year 36,000 mile warranty. Anybody know if this is true?

Good, have them prove it with documentation.

Finished with corporate. They put together a case for me and will be contacting the dealership. I should here back from the dealership within 24 to 48 hours. I hope it can be handled by the end of tomorrow. I have plans for the car this weekend...

Oh it will be. The dealers don't enjoy the call back. I had one handled quickly in the past.
