Wow, I am glad it got bumped up. I have the same problems at night but never would have thought to do this. I have moon roof so I am going to use that to power the ABL light. I don’t want to use the T-Taps though, anyone know the part number for the male connector (see picture borrowed from Superfly1)? I would like to extract those two pins remove the connectors and re-crimp new pins with both wires in it and then re-install them in the factory connector.

Wow this is amazing! This would help at night and prevent me from accidentally pressing the wrong garage door button like I have in the past.

Started prepping this one

Decided to make the wiring tonight to extend the abl from the side of my dash (mine is an early 2010 2SS so I have the abl on the side and behind dash)...

First a long 10 ft of wire both black and red. Then connect the proper GM Delphi terminals at each end to extend abl. Here's a pic.

I finished this tonight. I was racing the daylight... I'm going to re-visit a bit next weekend as one fiber optic I think slipped off the bulb inside when I popped it all back into place. Overall though I like it.

I'm thinking that I may go get a small rubber grommet and drill the center out so that I can thread the fiber optic cable through the center and then insert it into the GM LED housing to hold the cable in front of the LED.

Finished mine this weekend as well. I used the end of a pen to hold the fiber optic threads and the led in place like Superfly1 did with his. The hole at the tip of the pen was just big enough for the three strands of fiber optic thread to fit through and kept the strands from shifting around.

It was very helpful.

The one thing, and I probably should have done it but I was racing to finish before I ran out of daylight... Was the pictures on the link to the removal of the overhead console are now broken links and images are not there. So pics are needed for that thread. When I take this apart again next week I'll take some and post them.

Another thing I'll mention is that you can get away with about 8 feet of wire to extend from the abl connector to reach the overhead console.

Thanks for the input. Please feel free to add what you feel needs to be added.

Thanks

Question for you since I know you've been doing this a while and have experience with doing these types of things.

Do you think it's possible to put the fiber optic cables in to where they melt flush to fill the hole drilled? I think that night look neat.

I believe you might mess up the button if you melt it in. One could drill a hole only in the outer portion on the button but you would have to make sure the fibre optic fits inside and not pull through the clear part of the button.
