I've seen the competitive mode in auto; haven't used it yet; still under 1000 miles. Not sure if it works the same as the manual though. I'll wait for someone else to answer.

a good driver can achieve better results than LC, yes. LC is not for those few...Launch Control is there to help people get a nominal launch EVERY TIME. even those who can launch faster than launch control can't do it perfect every time. it's definitely for showing off, and much more.

Many years ago, I had access to a GM ABS manual. The manual indicated that optimum braking (and therefore traction) was achieved at 18% wheel slip. Presumably the same holds true under acceleration.

I am thinking Bracket Racing, where consistency is of the utmost importance.

I wonder how the system will tune itself to big increases in torque? Does it self learn when say adding 100 more foot pounds of torque?

It doesn't. Threshold braking balances the friction of the pads to the rotor and the tires to the ground. Every "percentage" of wheel spin, whatever that means, is power that you're not putting to the ground. It's wasted power. That's why people go to DRs or full slicks, because spinning the tires slows you down.

And pnyby, you're right, this would be useful in bracket racing, taking one less variable out of your run. Again, doesn't guarantee anything and a good driver knows how to stay closer to his/her dial. Stay gold.

I don't have my car yet so this might come across as a stupid question. I know it's harder on transmissions, but would it not be possible to get a good enough start on this car from second gear, without the wheel spin at least? And maybe it would be better for taking off at red lights to stay ahead of others without looking to be in a hurry or like a jackass, but not so much for 1/4 stats I can see or else there wouldn't be a point in having a first gear.
