This is how it was described by FbodFather V 2.0 at the Cleveland Camaro enthusiast showing:

DRL = bottom lights (Fog lights)
Parking lights = Halo's and amber lights
Headlights (night time) = Halo's and HID Headlights

Now, he did say this may change before production, but not sure.

the haols cannot be DRLs because they don't put out enough light to qualify

I know. I was just talking about the fact that they use the fog lights for the DRL's instead of the signal lights as they do on the non RS cars.

I don't like the having the fogs as the DRL's. I'd rather have the halos or the parking lights/front turn signals like the Corvette. But in the grand scheme of this great car, it's a small thing that doesn't bother me.
I didn't order the RS but I hope RS folks will be able to control the halos however they want.

Canada has had mandatory DRLs since the 1980s..... I think around 1985 or so they made them mandatory. Anyone who lives there or is from there can clarify and correct me if I'm wrong.

I have spoken to both Scott and John Fitzpatrick at the Cleveland show about this. It is true that if you do NOT have the RS package, the fog lights are fog lights and the DRLs are in the halogen headlamps. And if you DO have the RS package, the fog lights are the DRLs and you do NOT have fog lights at night.

Now, according to John, there is a rather simple modification (or so he was told by the engineers) to make the fog lights FOG lights and remove the DRL function. Of course, he said, that would be up to the owner yada yada yada legal talk.....

I will be making the most simple of mods you can do for this: cut the hot line about an inch back from the socket to the lamps, remove the DRL relay so there's no power going to a hanging wire (I'd probably terminate it with a cap and electrical tape), and run a sepparate swtich line to the wire that goes into the socket that runs off the 12v acc. with a switch on the dash or console. That way, I could turn the fogs on independent of the headlights and if I forget to turn off the switch when I shut the car off they still go off by themselves.

OMG it's not that hard.

DRLS are on IF no other lights are turned on.
Turn the parking lights on and the Foglights come on
Turn the HL on your halo's (lb) parking lights and foglights come on. If you need the HB then the fog lights will turn off.

I've sent an e-mail to Fitz and will post the results.......

Hold the phone......

He told me when you turn on the headlights or parking lights the DRLs go off and there ARE NO LIGHTS on when the headlights are on.....

Okay, we need to get serious clarification here.

Perhaps a Camaro core team engineer can chime in here.... Sheryl?

I will be very disappointed if the DRL's are the halogens on the non RS cars. I was hoping that they would do the same thing they did with the 4th gens and Corvettes which is make the amber lights the DRL's. Looks much better on a sports car.

Try as we might, we could not get the fog lamps to turn on with the training car in Vancouver. There was no switch for fog lamps. RS SS . The instructor said he understood there was a empty pad intended for that purpose.

That's an easy fix for all you RS guys - just buy the fog light switch and run a hotwire from it to the fog lights after cutting the DRL hot wire. No more DRL's and fog lights anytime you want.

that was cleared up a long time ago. the non-RS cars use the halogen headlights as DRLs. i know Number 3's LT has pictures like that & believe his SS has pics too. if i remember right, both of HeatherR's SS have pics like that as well. those are the most recent cars we've seen that way on top of quite a few pre-CTF cars we've seen.

Well maybe it's the same for the RS cars. The halos are the DRLs. Looking at a couple of pics of a RS it looks like the halos are on with no other lights. Still waiting for fitz comments on this. He can clear it up..

On a side note, I've never seen GM use foglights as DRLs. To me they would be to low to be affective. I've either seen the turn signals, headlights, or like my chevy truck it has it's own DRL that does not use anyother light.

OK, with parking lights on, there are NO FOGLIGHTS on.
With Headlights, NO FOGLIGHTS are on.

Foglights are only on when there are no other lights on.
Also, they said the "foglights" are not really foglights.

I like the RS option, I am sure somebody will figure it out......there is always a way.

I have a 2003 Ford Ranger EDGE. It is "illegal" to run fog lights and brights at the same time so they say.........there is a workaround that was pretty easy today........I also run 100 watt driving lights......also "illegal"....

With brights, fogs and 100watts drlights on at the same time, sure lights up the dark road.
