Z28 dead forever?

So I am going to get a camaro to replace my aging yugo. Having driven such a shitty car for so long, I wan't the highest performance camaro I can buy off the lot and do mind waiting a little longer.

Is the z28 dead for good? I don't want to get a camaro SS and then have a higher performance variant come out a year later. If they released the z28 eventually what engine/upgrades would it feature?

Lastly, if I can't get a z28 ever, is it possible for a dealer to order the camaro ss with an ls 376/480 engine instead of the regular ls3? it would be nice to have that engine off the lot instead of paying lots in installation for the hotcam on the ls3.

No, the dealer couldnt order that for you. Best bet is buying the engine you want through GMPP and doing your best to sell the stock engine.

As for the Z28, Motor Trend had a rendering on the cover that made me think they were releasing one, but dissapointingly, it lead to a one page article saying the Z28 would essentially look too bad on GM's line up, in light of them receiving government money now to stay alive, which clearly makes sense (congress wanted the CEO's to stop flying jets, GIVE EM A BREAK). So no, id justa bout bet my life on the fact that GM will not put out a Z28 for at least several years.

yeh thats what I figured. Than I won't feel bad ordering my sig pic camaro and having the king of camaro's. The 21 inch wheels sure look good but they decrease performance i've heard. might just go with the cheaper black wheels and get stickier tires for now and hot cam and full exhaust. Then i'll have n/a 500 hp+ camaro!!

What engine were they thinking of putting in z28 though?

It is not in the works now, but it would be pretty laughable to think it will never, ever, not in a million years come back. It will come back. Someday, just not today. And not this year.

The Z28 is on hold, nothing more, nothing less. If it gets ok'd for production, it will feature the 550 hp supercharged 6.2L out of the CTS-V, or something similar. At any rate, we should not expect a Z28 before the 2012 model year.

WELCOME - first

Please keep comments/questions/remarks/replies/etc. free of profanity. This community has a wide range of ages that visits and it's not always appropriate. I'll admit to an S-bomb here-and-there, however, please limit the usage of that vernacular; action will be taken otherwise

To your question - it's been speculated that the LSA (the 6.2L supercharged version of the engine from the CTS-V) was going to power a Z28. There are NO official confirmations on details of a Z28 from GM at this time however, except for it will be availalbe for launch. The opinion shared by many is that if there's a chance for it to return, it won't be for at least a couple years, depending on the ultimate health of GM. Feel free to use the "Search" function in the toolbar above. There are lots of threads and posts on the matter that is Z28.

Respectfully...

DG' - sorry; I must've been typing while you were posting.

You seriously still drive a Yugo? Not trying to make fun here, just surprised that there are still parts available to maintain them. I thought the USA destroyed the plant in the 1990s during the Yugoslav/Croatia/Bosnia conflict because they had changed over to make tanks.

well. I was keeping it as a sorta novelty car. Then my other car got stolen and never returned. I opted to take money from insurance and just drive the yugo until I get my camaro.

I laughed at first when you said you drive a Yugo, but that's some pretty solid thinking right there.

I'm just annoyed we can't get a Z28 just because everyone insists it has to be a supercharged monster rather than a more balanced performance upgrade.

We will never hear the end of it from all of the newbs that get on here. The world will end because of all the complaints and whining.

WHY IS THE Z28 NOT 550 HP! IF GM DOESN'T GIVE US 550 HP THEN I WILL NEVER BUY GM AGAIN...

Gosh I can already see them complaining day after day, new thread after new thread. And I'm not even a MOD.

why not just make it less tan say 3800lbs, like 3500lbs somehow and put a hot cam in it plus better suspension. Gt500 is over 4000lbs and handles awful bc of solid rear axle. a camaro as i described would be way better!

Nobody, including GM, knows what the future holds. Maybe yes, Z28, maybe no.
