A 3" exhaust is too much for the V6 unless you're running more than like 12# of boost. There is a MACH 2.5" exhaust option if you really wanted the aFe.

Yea but the 3" is less than half the price of the 2.5" just trying to get more information before I make a decision

Supply and demand. More SS owners and more SS owners modify their cars. No matter what you will negatively impact the car's performance if you go 3" especially if you are stock or nearly stock otherwise. If you were supercharged stage 2 or turbo'd it would be different. If you just want sound, look into different axle backs like the MRT v2 or Borla ATAK, and get a Magnaflow 11386 to weld in place of your stock H pipe. Hell, if you have the 11386 installed and want a lot of volume with a good tone and relatively low rasp, you could just do a muffler delete. Might be a touch too loud on the highway though.

As mentioned, if you're just after a different/louder sound you could have the h-pipe removed and replaced with a "resonated x-pipe" such as Magnaflow's 11386, and then have the factory mufflers removed as well - might be even cheaper than the 3" exhaust; this is what I did (also went 2.5" pipe the whole way - stock exhaust is 2.25" after the h-pipe) and I think it sounds pretty good.

With that said, I've also heard video clips of 3" exhausts on the V6 and they sound pretty damn good too, so if you don't mind the potentially reduced HP from the bigger exhaust then go for it. I imagine the power loss is relatively small although I really have no idea.

With a 3" exhaust and no cats it will drone and rasp on immense levels. The aFe 3" and 2.5" systems are also H pipes which will only exacerbate the issue, nevermind the absolute lack of flow without an X with a 3" system on the V6.

The 11386 is key to a good tone on a V6. You can change the overall sound with mufflers but most people will think you're a jackass because it's so brutally loud and raspy without it if you're running no cats. I had a guy that lived near me that had a 3.8 Genesis that was obviously no cats and true dual or H pipe because it was wicked loud and had that metallic "splat" kind of sound you expect from a truck driven by a child and lo and behold everyone hated him.

This is also coming from someone who has run stock cats / high flow cats / catless with the stock exhaust / NPP / NPP with the 11386 / 3" with a similar resonated X muffler. I've tried a lot. The 11386 works. "Unique" does not mean good.

(Also worth noting I don't know where you saw the 3" system being half the cost because on the aFe website they're exactly the same price)

For what it's worth, I do understand. And you have a lot of options that are 2.5" but are "for the SS" that will sound different than the systems for the V6. Shop around. I just really recommend not doing 3".
