From Wikipedia...The cat (Felis catus), also known as the domestic cat or housecat[5] to distinguish it from other felines and felids, is a small carnivorous mammal that is valued by humans for its companionship and its ability to hunt vermin and household pests. It has been associated with humans for at least 9,500 years[6] and is currently the most popular pet in the world.[7]
I couldn't resist.. ![]() or you might be referring to a Catalytic Converter.. Also from wikipedia. A catalytic converter (colloquially, "cat" or "catcon") is a device used to reduce the toxicity of emissions from an internal combustion engine. |

Catalytic Converters are devices that superheat your exhaust as it passes though them to "burn off" most of the toxic fumes your car produces to minimize air pollution.

They also contain Platinum which is used as the catalyst and is why they are so expensive.

I got to comment on something here. I'm 29. My first car was a 1971 SS Chevelle. I was always in love with old muscle cars. I love to see the enthusiasm that the 5th Gen Camaro was induced with car buyers. It seems to me there is an enourmous "re-learn process", as represented by this thread. We have been without muscle real cars for so long that general knowledge is long gone. Reading through the modern performance car forums reminds me of how the knowledge of how to make cement was lost for a 1000 years after the German barbarians sacked Rome. Thank God we are getting back to playing with affordable performance cars. People who formerly didn't even know what cat coverters are, are now inspired to the questions, and seek the knowledge.
Yesterday, I popped the hood on a 2010 Camaro for the first time. I was very happy to see all the plugs are easilly accessible, headers look like they will fit just fine, and I can buy an LSX Bowtie block and shoe horn a 510ci super charged beast right in there, with out too many geometric concerns. I'm glad to see the American muscle car situation is coming back to where is once was...GREATNESS. Edited to mention: I have a few Heinekens in me...incase you are wondering why I'm alittle off topic. Just thought I'd share my observations. |
