Yet Another Farewell to the Camaro? Really?

You've read 'em all and weeped. 'The end of an era', 'gone forever', and on and on. Is it? Hybrid being the next iteration? I hope not, but for now, it seems curtains for our storied car. Interesting in this article is the relative enthusiasm still for the Mustang. Is that because of horsepower, (why not Dodge?) a better retro look, marketing or what?

Did Ford finally win the war? Or will Camaro make yet another comeback as a 7th Gen? And if so, what would appeal, an even more retro design? Stupid HP? Certainly not an EV, right? So many questions but I for one cannot see this being a real end to the legacy. Too many young people that still like cars. But they are diminishing. What say y'all?

Chevy let the 6th gen stagnate too long. There was no entry level V8 like the LT1 trim until 2020... Chevy V8 power was no longer affordable. No one really looked to Camaro for a cute 6 cylinder or 4 cylinder turbo Convertible. You bought a Camaro if you wanted a Chevy V8.

Ford didnt win the war so much as GM absolutely got taken over by leftist Environmentalists. It doesnt help that the Feds and EPA have their hands up GMs backside like a meat puppet. Besides, the current Mustang is absolutely butt ****ing ugly as is the upcoming "Charger".

EV is a craze, and currently unsustainable in any modern iteration. Hybrid wouldnt be bad. Having been a Lexus tech for 15 years of my life, a Hybrid Camaro with a V8 engine in front would be MONSTROUS. Seriously, it would probably spank a Tesla Plaid if done right with an AWD setup.

Not sure how accurate it is, but I ran across this article saying Chevy is investing 175M in the next Camaro. It does not say if it's and EV, but given the lack of EV sales, I can't imagine they would go down that road at this point.

You can cross fingers and hope in one hand and crap in the other to see which one fills up first, but for all intents and purposes, the Camaro, as we came to know and love, is over. While gm might make another version of the Camaro, it's highly unlikely it'd be one that harkens back to the OG Camaro we fell in love with. A CINO. Camaro In Name Only. The heritage will be raped, beat up, and left in the roadside ditch of history to die.

Never say never, but the iteration that we know is likely done.

"Ford didnt win the war so much as GM absolutely got taken over by leftist Environmentalists." This is why I could see the next Camaro being 100% EV. "Skwoo yer freedoms..."

"CINO" So true.

I think it comes down to pricing... For all of the big 3. Atleast the argument made in that article, about sales steadily decreasing which lead to the ultimate demise. The average car enthusiast cannot afford 45k plus for an SS Camaro. The dodges and Fords are even more expensive. The real truth is that they out priced the people who want to buy those cars. No early 20's guy who wants to hotrod can afford a $800 + car payment, unless they still live at home with mom and dad. Instead they buy a Kia or a volkswagen and get an apartment.

Another argument can be made as to why they kept losing money is constantly faelifting the cars trying to appeal to the next "buyer". Look at Trucks for example, you can go to the dealership right now and buy a 2024 Ram 1500 classic truck that looks just like the 2009 model. Ram one of the best selling truck names. People like what they like, that's why the 5th gen Camaro is one of the most sought after Camaros, because they got the formula right. Good looking car, great drivetrain, affordable, well designed.... People still want it over 10 years later. Not everyone likes teh sharp edges and fancy diffusers on the new Camaro's...Hell The Zl1 is banned in Europe because they front bumper is so sharp, they claim it will impale pedestrians.

Lots of companies are using old car names to boost sales... Look at Dodge, they brought back the Dart in a cheap economy car... They just released the Hornet which is a crossover. Ford already used the Mustang name to try and boost the sales of the Mach-E mustang suv... Its inevitable that Chevrolet will do the same. To them its just a name and a marketing tool.

I say that Chevrolet should definitely look at a future Camaro. However, do it the right way. The 5th Gen was a runaway success; It makes you wonder how the 6th gen went cold.

Things are lackluster at Chevrolet at the moment. IMO the only bright spot at Chevrolet are its regular sized trucks. Nothing below the trucks are appealing. Almost every car maker features crossover vehicles, with some of those vehicles actually being pretty good. Chevrolet and GM will need to come to their senses and decide if they actually want to be a car company.

I believe there is hope. gm's money maker is full size trucks and suvs so the V8 will continue on in their portfolio. It's just that the conditions will need to be right for a V8 to make it's way into a CAR called Camaro and we may need to live through a lack luster product cycle before it happens.

If the Camaro name is slapped on an suv I'll lose all hope. I could aspire to own a Corvette but they're considerably more expensive and I still wish they offered a manual.

I tend to agree. And what did I get for my brand loyalty? Not 8, but 16 DFM lifters!

I think GM should've dropped the LT# / A10 into the Gen5 body style for a couple years before going to the 6th gen body. Maybe they could've stretched out the sales a while longer that way.

the 6th gen was basically a 7/8 scale 5th gen.after driving one its not big enough for a 6 ft 2 inch guy that weighs 230.add the styling "improvements" and i can see why sales slowed.

I feel that with Camaro and cars in general now, we're going throughaa malaise era type repeat where gov regulation and market stuff just forces cars into being lame (more so the latter this time around), I think and honestly I hope that things get better, it will just take some time. Meanwhile my car still drives nice and I can buy a decent car from 20-30 years ago relatively cheap so I'm set for a while, I just feel bad for people in the future for whom the "20-30 year old car" is something being made right now.
