Have you noticed this?

Was at the stealership this morning for some Dexcool and happened to see a sign that looks to be a trend. Quite a few restaurants are doing this as well. They’re passing on the 3% credit card usage charge to the customer, to keep their costs down. Looks like cash will be king again.

Our business implemented that policy last year. I sell driveline rebuilding and balancing equipment for upwards of $100,000. Occasionally, someone would put that on a credit card. We don't see that much now. But honestly, it was crazy for us to pony up the $3000. Especially since I'm on straight commission!!

See that here as well, not all places, but seems more as days go by.

Consider yourself sort of lucky. That's been a thing almost everywhere on the west coast and Nevada for 20 years.

I have not seen that here in Florida as of yet. If I do.. then forget about it. I rather cook my meals at home instead. Sad this is what things are coming to these days....

Yeah, it's becoming all too common. That and tip lines literally everywhere. I'm not tipping at Taco Bell or any other fast food restaurant.

With those kind of numbers, yea, I wouldn’t take the card w/o the charge, as well.
But, we’re talking everyday purchases, which tells me the cc companies aren’t going to be making the money they want either. Snowball effect. Less people using their cards, they raise the rate even higher (3% to ?%] and so on and so on. The current economy…just pay more.

I'm a pretty " frugal " guy by nature but I'm also a good tipper. However my tips are a reward for good service. Lousy service, small (but not insulting) tip. Good service, big tip. NO pre-tipping. Definitely no fast food tips either. Oh, being the superficial male that I am if the waitress is hot the tip-o-meter moves proportionately to the positive.

I'm a proponent of tipping at food services. But there is an exception. If I have to pick up my food at a drive-thru or at the counter, or drive to pick up the Outback to Go, for example (live too far out for any delivery), then I'm not tipping anyone. If it's a sit-down place, then ok, it'll average 15-25%. But if they just cook it, put it in a bag and wait for me to come get it...forget it. I usually pay in the app when doing pickups and avoid any useless tipping.

After Helene went through, we had about 10 big azz trees down and had them cut up and removed. That was a pretty penny since home insurance doesn't cover downed trees unless they crunch a covered structure. Luckily the trees didn't crunch anything important. I did tip the 4-man crew at the end of the day because I doubt the company owner would. Gave them $30 each to spend on a good lunch, 1/4 tank of gas, or 2 packs of smokes or whatever they wanted. They were surprised and pretty happy about it.

As far as the 3% thing, if they jack the rate because you're using a credit card, then I'm likely not shopping there, at least no large purchases. That's the merchant's agreement the company makes with the CC companies to pay that silly surcharge for accepting them in the first place. I get that they don't want to pay it, nobody does, but charging customers that extra percentage for CC use that the vendor isn't required to be a part of because they want to save a buck but yet get your CC money is kinda lame IMO. You want to save CC fees? Then don't enter the agreement with the CC companies, put up a "Cash Only" sign and call it a day. If it would curtail CC usage, then I'm all for it, but I doubt it. Sorry, I'm not paying YOUR fees as a surcharge, Mr. Merchant of Stuff I Want. You want to do that, then jack your prices up by 3% to hide it and charge everyone the surcharge and quit with the extra fees. And then you want tips on top of that?...take it out of that 3% surcharge.

Yeah, the tipping situation is out of hand nowadays. They have a tip jar for cash and if you use credit they ask for a tip on screen at the local gas station.

I am a good tipper for good service at a sitdown restaurant. The service received reflects my tip. If i have to chase you down to ask for a refill, or sauce, your going to get a smaller tip. No tips for drive thru from any fast food place that generally doesnt get my order rite anyway, or there is no napkins or straws.

Everything is out of whack these days with costs and your asked to tip anyone and everyone you have an interaction with.. no thanks

Another restaurant, that is regular stop for us, just implemented this. The bill now reflects a “cash” price as the total includes the 3% fee. The bill is now handled by the server, instead of paying at the register. No reason given when I asked but, I’ll bet now and then there’s the idiots that don’t think they need to pay.

The government wants you off cash. You really think there is a “coin shortage”? Even our local AAA baseball team is cashless. Including parking. Credit cards only.

I firmly believe that all businesses have upcharged 3% ever since the 1st credit card was issued. It's just that stating this now is a way for them raise their prices without getting blamed by the consumer.
