6th gen V8 TR-6060 swap into a 5th gen V8?
I see a lot of salvaged manual transmission units for the 6th gen camaro SS (and ZL1). The Tremec TR-6060 is theoretically the same, except for a different shifter placement, I believe? I don’t think there’s any additional sensors; or maybe they used different connectors..
But I was wondering if it was possible to swap a 6th gen TR-6060 over into a 5th gen that already uses it’s own TR-6060 “variant”. It seems like it should be doable, but requires you to swap over the 5th gen parts, in order to allow for the original shifter (linkage) location. Aside from that, I wonder if the bell housing to the trans is any different… I need to also check the way the CSC is routed, and the feed for the clutch line. Edit: I also meant to ask if any of the other TR-6060’s in the other 5th gen V8 manual models, can be swapped over; and if they possibly require any other parts and/or modifications? I know the 14-15 SS 1LE has different gearing, as well as the 14-15 Z28. Would the 12-15 ZL1 6MT be able to be swapped over to any 10-15 SS? If anyone knows or has any lowkey or “niché” information on these tranny swaps, please let me know. I plan to do something like this in the future. I was already looking at 12+ SS TR-6060’s, which have the factory revised carbon fiber sintered synchronizer rings. I have a mid 2009 release, 2010 year model 2SS coupe, and I’m pretty sure the original brass synchronizers are getting worn. I baby the car, but 2nd and 3rd gear are probably the most notchy/crunchy sometimes.. |

All fifth gen TR6060s can be used in another V8 fifth gen. I've never seen anything on it, but I would be surprised if a 6th gen TR6060 could not be used. The bellhousing pattern has been the same forever, but I have not seen a 6th gen, so I'm not sure if any of the fluid line routing changes. RockAuto does show them to use different slave cylinders.
