Guide to Replacing Rear Quarter Window
I am writing a quick guide on how to replace the rear quarter window on a 5th gen Camaro with the convertible top. Hopefully this is helpful to someone. I just had to replace the driver side window on my 2013 SS because the weatherstripping came off.
Parts you will need: GM 22829813 (driver side window) and/or 22829814 (passenger side window) Tools you will need: -10mm open-end wrench First, I used the following YouTube video as a guide, but I felt there were some details missing, so I will try to explain the process below: Step 1: Start by putting the top down and ensure the windows are down. Step 2: Remove the trim piece just on the inside of the window by pulling up with your hand in the seatbelt gap and working your way to the back. The rear seat belt will prevent you from being able to remove the trim piece from the vehicle, so just set it to the side. Refer to the first picture. Step 3: Locate the horizontal weatherstripping the inside of the vehicle. Pull the weatherstripping up, starting from the rear of the vehicle. The weatherstripping cannot be completely removed, but just position it out of the way of the window. Step 4: Roll up the window you are replacing. Step 5: With the window up, look straight down, and you should be able to see the window clamp and two 10mm bolts. Refer to the second picture. Step 6: Using the 10mm open-end wrench, begin loosening both bolts. When performing this step, I had to turn the bolt 1/8th of a turn, flip the wrench around, turn the bolt another 1/8th of a turn, and repeat. It takes a while, and don't stop just because the bolt feels loose. You have to keep going so that the clamp has room to spread, releasing the window. The third picture shows how far I loosened the bolt before attempting to remove the window. Step 7: With both bolts loose, the window will likely still be stuck to the padding. I had to wiggle the window left/right while simultaneously pulling up to get the window loose. I'll be honest, this felt sketchy, but eventually the window came loose. Step 8: Set the new window in the clamp. You will need to position the window eventually, but for now, just get it positioned in the ballpark. Step 9: Begin tightening down bolt 10mm bolts. You want them snug but not fully tightened yet. You need them snug enough that the window will hold its position but loose enough that you can position the window as needed. Step 10: Position the window so that it seals correctly with the front window. Use your opposite windows as a template. That is all the advice I have for this step. You just kinda play with it until it is good enough. Step 11: Now that the window is positioned, you can fully tighten both 10mm bolts. Step 12: Replace the horizontal weatherstripping. Step 13: I recommend rolling the windows up/down and closing the top to verify everything is lined up properly. Step 14: Replace the trim panel removed earlier. |
